Idea for Expat just for fun

So I played Expat tonight.  She did really well for us, but I noticed that she didn't really use Pride or Prejudice much.  I seem almost always better to use the shotgun or assault rifle.  Flavor wise people might like the idea of a ton of guns, but I love the picture made with Pride and Prejudice side by side so I was wondering about a flavor change to the deck that really stresses these two weapons.  Heres what I was thinking...

First of all I would remove all of her other guns.  They would be replaced as follows:

Assault Rifle becomes "All Out Assault": One-Shot: Expatriette deals one target 2 projectile damage.  You may use an additional power this turn.

I like this because normally you get to play a card and then hit three targets for two each.  With this card you do one target 2 damage, then you can Load to play a card, then shoot P&P once each if you have them both.  This is a little different because you could aim all the damage at one target, but also if you had say one hollow point card out it would only affect one of the shots instead of all three.   Maybe you would need to put something on there about not being able to hit the same target twice this turn or something like that.

Tactical Shotgun becomes "Tactical Surveillance": One-Shot: Draw three cards.

I like this because it will help her get to P&P faster and she needs some help in this anyway.  Start with one on your first turn to play and hit another copy or a Quick Draw and use Load on that and you should be getting at least one out early.

Submachine Gun becomes "Secure Holster": Ongoing: Pride and Prejudice are indestructible.

This is because you have some real trouble if you loose these.  Although Quick Draw would get them out of the trash.  This card could alternately be a one-shot that takes Pride or Prejudice from your trash and puts it into play.

Now that she has no guns Unload has to change.  Here is my idea:

Unload: One-Shot: Discard up to 3 cards.  You gain 2X powers this turn and Pride and Prejudice may each be used X times this turn where X is the number of cards discarded.

Basically the idea is she could Load and still shoot each gun three times.  Obviously ammo is destroyed after the first use of each.  This is interesting in that it would be really increased by +damage but really hindered by damage reduction.  Her current unload is somewhat that way as well, but it could be changed just to P&P each gain 2X damage this turn if that is a huge issue.  I like the first version because it gives you the option to spread damage out among targets or focus in on one.  I think an optimal play for her would be to play "All Out Assault", use one gun once, then use load to play Unload and get 6 more shots.  Without ammo or +damage this would work out to 14 damage.  Obviously an ammo card might up the damage, but with this model I don't know that you could stock pile too much ammo on your guns outside of "Spead Loading" which already works with the normal unload.  So lets say you have a "Hollow Points" and an "Incediary Rounds".  That would up the damage to 17 damage.  Not too OP compared to what other heros can do on their big damage card cards or compared to Unload currently.  The discard might even be too much.

So thats the idea, it isn't to make her stronger, just change the flavor from lots of guns to her two beloved guns.  I think I like he interaction with her Load power.  Also with fewer equipments for "Arsenal Access" and the extra card draw hopefully she would get them both out consistently.  Any thoughts?

It's an interesting idea, though I'm not on board with thinking the deck needs to focus on just two guns.  Better make sure there are plenty of ways to get the two cards you need from a 40 card deck every game.  :)

Even with all her guns, I spend most of the game really hoping to draw a Tactical Shotgun.

Maybe it's just because Legacy is so popular at my table, but I tend to use P&P more than anything else. Double-dipping on damage boosts means that as long as there's no reduction one point of increased damage immediately makes P&P better than the Tactical Shotgun. It also gets around some of the annoying "first time per turn" damage reductions, and I find I'm often able to find them early with her search cards.

IMO, they function well as her signature weapons, but additionally it's fun to have an arsenal to choose from for different circumstances. One of the things that makes Expat fun to me is that she's primarily a damage dealer but she has lots of viable damage options depending on the situation. Need to cut through reduction? Shotgun! Need to hit lots of little guys? SMG! Need to hit a couple little guys? Assault Rifle! Have damage boosts? Pride and Prejudice! Also, having multiple weapons in play lets her use ammo more efficiently. If you only need to do 2 points of damage to a minion, might as well put your ammo on something else and be able to double-ammo next turn. Because she's so focused on damage, those little bits of flexibility in the way she deals that damage are crucial to keeping her fun to play in my opinion.

plus Pride and Predjucide uses only 1 power for Unload :)

I agree with pretty muh every statement here, this was just a different take on it that I thought might be a fun idea.  My group doesn't play Legacy much so her signature cards see very little use for us.

Well I thought that you only get the free use as long as it was your last power.  What I mean by that is if you get an extra power for some reason and use Pride which lets you use Predjudice that still counts as both powers.  If you wanted to use an additional power you have do it first so that your second power gives you the ability to use the second gun even though you are out of powers for the turn.  For example if Ex is Emboldened and she starts with P&P she is done, but if she starts with a shotgun, then she can still use P&P because even though she runs out of powers for the turn after using Pride it says that she can use Predjucide.

The card could be reworded as necessary to make it work as intended.

you are correct sefirit. By Read as Written, it does need to be the last card used.
