If new content was genetically spliced old content

Ok, so I was trying to describe the Vengeance content to a non-playtester and obviously I couldn't give any details, so I began to ponder how to describe the content, with no specifics, in terms they would get. After I thought more about it, I thought it would make sort of an interesting activity. Thus, I gained permission from Christopher to make this thread. The idea is to give people waiting for Vengeance a SENSE of what they're waiting for, and for playtesters to have a little fun.

PLAYTESTERS: Describe Vengeance content in terms of old content. No specifics (lots of one-shots, this card that does X, etc.). No generalities (very tanky, high damage, etc.) Only describe as combinations of existing content (He's a cross between Legacy and Wraith, with a little Tachyon sprinkled on top).

NON-PLAYTESTERS: Feel free to make suppositions, guesses, and wild conjecture, but you WILL NOT have these ideas confirmed or denied by playtesters, at least, not ones that want to keep being playtesters

I'll start:
Parse - like a cross between Visionary and Chrono-Ranger with a little Mister Fixer sprinkled in.
Naturalist - like a cross between Scholar and Young Legacy
Setback - like a cross between Haka and Omnitron-X
KNYFE - like a cross between Ra and Chrono-Ranger
Sentinels - like a cross between Tachyon and Ra with a little Argent Adept sprinkled in.

Feel free to add your own interpretations/impressions of the heroes, as well as your impressions of the villains and environments. Also, feel free to mix-and-match (i.e. a villain is a cross between environment X and hero Y). Just remember, no explanations or justifications, just the Powerpuff Girls style formula you would use to create the Vengeance content.

Hey, folks! Just jumping in here to say that I am excited to see where this thread goes! That said, Playtesters, be good. Follow the rules. What Broccoli is proposing is totally 100% ok, but only if you play by his rules. Don't go giving away all of the secrets! (That's my job!)

Carry on! Have fun!

Intreguing...

I'm still really excited about KNYFE, as I want to see what a melee/energy bruiser looks like now that the >G gang have a lot more experience since the original set.  Your description of Parse also has me excited, as it seems like she'll have quite a bit of deck control for an archer...

Maybe this is asking too much in advance-- >G guys, this one's for you--could we get a list of just the base powers of the Vengeance heroes?  I know that'll fuel quite a bit of speculation without giving too much away!

Nope! Or, at least, not yet!

*smoke bombs*

Blast!

Hmm...

On the Villain side of things, I'd describe them as:

Vengeance Baron Blade- A cross between Regular Baron Blade and Iron Legacy.

Ermine- A cross between La Capitan and Miss Information.

Friction- A cross between Tachyon and Citizen Dawn.

Fright Train- A cross between Plague Rat and Omnitron.

Proletariat- Somewhere between Voss and the Chairman.

K.N.Y.F.E: A cross between Ra and Chrono-Ranger, with a hint of Tachyon.

The Sentinels: A cross between Scholar and Ra, with a hint of Wraith.

The Naturalist: A cross between Chrono-Ranger and Scholar, with a hint of Argent Adept.

Setback: A cross between Absolute Zero and Argent Adept, with a hint of Tachyon.

Parse: A corss between Visionary and Wraith, with a hint of Fixer.

Freedom Five Tower: A cross between Final Wastland and Pike Industrial Complex, with a hint of Time Cataclysm.

MDP: A cross between Realm of Discard and The Block, with a hint of Rook City.

Interesting. I've fought the whole V5 as the Naturalist, so I can see what you mean. There's definitely some Scholar there.

I have nothing to add there. Braith pretty much hit the nail on the head. Pretty perfect.

Chef Vengeance presents the hero menu:

Parse  - Chrono-Ranger bits wrapped in a warm crispy Visionary croissant.

Naturalist  - A tastey Scholar based soup with all natural Haka chunks and Argent Adept spices. And noodles. Lots of noodles.

Setback  - 2 parts Nightmist, 1 part Fanatic. Shake in a tumbler, pour in a lowball glass, add a thin layer of ABZero on top and set it on fire. (warning Clear the room of anything sharp or flamable. May cause loss of sight, bloody nose, missing apendages, explosive diarhea, ect ect. Drink at your own Risk)

KNYFE  - A rotisserie style Ra marinated with Tempest juices with a slight hint of Expat to taste.

Sentinels  - A complex blend of a Unity malt thats been aged in Young Legacy barrels. It has some initial rich Tempest notes with a crip Tachyon finsih. Tastes like purple drank.

I see Setback as a bit of Fanatic, a bit of Legacy, a bit o AZ/Bunker and a bit of Chrono Ranger.

Naturalist/Scholar is a good comparison.

Sentinels have a bit of the Argent Adept and Haka (maybe Tempest would be more appropriate?)

Knyfe is like Chrono Ranger meets Haka to me.

Parse is Visionary meets Mr. Fixer with a bit of Chrono Ranger on top.

And the above V5 descriptions were pretty spot on.

Foote, that was beautiful. Now I'm hungry.

Well, that's the trick... I'm always hungry.

I confess that I stole the Setback recipie from the Simpsons. Subing Absolute Zero in place of cough syrup  (yay puns!) made for a more complex flavor profile and a much larger initial explosion.

Maerynian's, as I found out, taste nothing like chicken. More of a sadness and slavery sorta taste, similar to Warheads but with more tears. Slightly gamey. Goes well with a nice chianti.

I've been really hoping Parse was a more aggressive counterpart to visionary and it looks like my hopes have been answered. Which will suck for the next month or so, as now I want to play her all the more. :(

The descriptions of Parse have me wondering if she'll be able to "stack" ongoings on targets similiarly to Chrono-Ranger. Maybe not for damage (though I find that most likely) but to impact the villains damage or play…

Everything else is harder for me to speculate, I'll let it simmer for a time :stuck_out_tongue:

This made me laugh much harder than it shod have

I think I'm most excited about KNYFE 'cause Chronoranger and Ra are two of my favourite heroes, Setback also looks awesome (But it's >Games so everything's awesome) Another deck control hero would be welcomed so Parse is quite anticipated by me as well.

KNYFE: Tachyon + Ra

Naturalist: Wraith + Haka + Scholar, in varying degrees

Sentinels: a LITTLE bit of tachyon with a decent amount of the Scholar; add some Tempest.

Setback: Absolute Zero + Fanatic + Nightmist, with a LITTLE bit of Chrono-Ranger

Parse: Visionary + Argent Adept + a TEENSY bit of Fixer

V5 as a group: Freedom Five + strong hints of Citizen Dawn.

Blade: Legacy + Megalopolis (Environment card? YEP. Deal with it.)

Friction: Tachyon (that's pretty much it, really). Well, add the TEEEEEEEENSIEST bit of the Scholar.

Ermine: Miss Information + La Capitan

Proletariat: Voss... that's really it, that's out already. From Sentinels, anyway. Maybe a little bit of Unity in there. Just a little.

Fright Train: Iron Legacy - The Scholar (yeah, subtraction. Figure THAT out.)

Non-Playtester based on the info, going to make some predictions based on the info above.  Have I mentioned that I can't wait until Vengeance comes out?

Parse:  Based on the info here and her bio I would have to say that she likely has some sort of deck manipulation that will identify weak points in the villain deck.  I can't figure out exactly how it works, but I know it will be distinctly different from Visionary.  I imagine with ther archery that she will be able to do a lot of instances of small damage.

KNYFE: I think she'll hit hard and quick.  I am imagining a lot of one-shots and not a lot of permanents.

Naturalist, The:  I expect his alluded to shapeshifting to work similar to The Scholar's forms, allow different advantages based on what is out.  I wouldn't be surprised if he's a beefy character also.

Setback:  He will be some type of risk-reward character.  I imagine that his HP will be a resource.  One idea, possibly the unlucky pool does damage to himmself or teammates if he keeps them.  But the more of them he has the more powerful his abilities become and he might have cards that add or subtract to the number of tokens he has in his pool.  Probably not correct, but I imagine something similar.

Sentinels, The:  This is the hardest one for me to get a grasp on.  I imagine multiple targets, but I still don't know if they will be in the deck or have separate character cards.  What I do picture is a hero(es) that can adapt to multiple roles.

Just speculation, can't wait to see them in action.

If Parse targets weak points, I hope that she does irreducible damage.

I'm hoping that KNYFE will have some cards that aren't just More Stabby-Dakka, but also some stuff representing her espionage and intelligence side.  Like how Trust Fund doesn't seem to match the rest of Wraith's deck, but is integral in getting her the many tools she chooses among.  I'm hoping KNYFE is a bit of a scout and agent, as well as a damage-dealer.  She should have some effect that gives her the equivalent of Wraith's Stealth ability, though her innate Power is probably more like F6 Wraith's Last Stand ability.  Perhaps it could be "KNYFE deals 1 melee damage to any target.  KNYFE deals 1 melee damage to any target."  That way, it'd be similar to Fanatic, minus the two different damage types, but plus the flexibility to hit the same target or different targets, as with O-X's Rocket Punch.

For Natch, since we already have Bunker's Modes, Mr. Fixer's Styles and Tools, and Scholar's Elementals, I'm hoping for something a little different.  My theory?  His deck consists of a lot of one-shots which have one basic effect (perhaps just drawing some cards, or dealing a little damage, and another effect depending on which form he's in.  For example:

Antelope Alertness - Ongoing.  At the start of your turn, draw a card.  At the end of your turn, if The Naturalist is in Gazelle Form, draw a card.

Crocodile's Jaws - One-Shot.  The Naturalist deals 3/4 melee damage to any target.  If The Naturalist is in Crocodile Form, a target damaged this way cannot deal damage until the start of The Naturalist's turn.

Rhino Charge - One-Shot.  If The Naturalist is in Rhino Form, he deals 5 melee damage to any target.  Draw five cards, then discard three cards.

Herd Instinct - One-Shot.  Reduce the next damage dealt to The Naturalist by 2.  If The Naturalist is in Gazelle Form, reduce all damage dealt to him by 1 until the start of his next turn.  Draw a card.

Bloody Horns - Ongoing.  Increase damage dealt to The Naturalist by 1.  If The Naturalist is in Rhino Form, increase damage dealt by the Naturalist by 2.  If The Naturalist is in Gazelle Form, whenever The Naturalist would deal damage to a target, instead he deals that much damage to all non-hero targets.

River Lurker - Ongoing.  The Naturalist is immune to damage from environment cards.  If The Naturalist is in Crocodile Form, draw a card whenever an environment card is destroyed.  If The Naturalist is in Gazelle Form, redirect all damage dealt to hero targets by Environment cards to The Naturalist.

(For some reason, I really seem to like Gazelle form.)

Setback and the Sentinels I have no real clue on.

I really like the thought proccess here. This would be an awesome card!
