I just want to make sure I have this right. If Illusory Demon is chosen as the target of an Ongoing that causes damage to be dealt, such as Impale, and that damage destroys the demon, since the "when this card is destroyed" effects resolve in card-play order, Impale's "the target is gone, so destroy this" doesn't happen until after the Demon's "destroy an Ongoing" happens, and so you can (and probably should) choose Impale as the destroyed Ongoing, just before it would be destroyed anyway. Agreed?

This seems to be one of the cases where the new ruling is being interpreted as overly broad; I don't think it applies. But since the result is the same, there's little point in arguing over it.

Yes, you would be able to destroy Impale.
Impale destroys itself when the target you set it next to leaves play.
We know that cards with effects that happen on their own destruction stay in play until that effect is completed, so Impale and Illusory Demon will both be in play when Illusory Demon destroys a card.
The new ruling doesn't apply to this one.
