Kudos to Greater Than Games...

Just got the game. Played with my 5 year old son. Tempest and Legacy against Omnitron. It was a blast! I messed up some of the rules, like only attacking one target with a power I later realized affects ALL targets :)

I played afterwards with my wife. It was The Wraith and Legacy (nice classic Superman and Batman setup) against Baron Blade. Again, a blast! We actually won! I winced every time I had to draw a new environment or villain card. We barely got him. I was knocked out right before she finished him off :) I kept it a secret that you flip his card when you beat him the first time. It had already been a hard game, and she yelled "What?? Are you KIDDING ME???" But like I said, we still got him :)

Awesome games guys. Thanks for making such a quality game!

Even more incredible for the fact that the game is supposed to be for a minimum of three heroes (even if one player is playing more than one hero).  So beating him with two heroes is fantastic.

The game is actually intended to be played wih 3-5 heroes. If it is just the two people playing you might consider each playing 2 heroes. You'll find Baron Blade s a lot easier with more than 2 heroes and you will find that essentially any other villian is impossible to defeat with just 2 heroes!  Plus your wife and son will have more fun if you win more frequently!

Nice story! Glad you're having fun!  and, yes, kudos to >G for an awesome & fun & replayable game :)

Also remember that when you play with 2 heroes H still stands for 3.

Not to be difficult, but I honestly can't find where in the rule book it says 3-5 heroes. All I knew was the box says 2-5 players, and you each play a hero. I see what you're saying though. It DOES look like it'd be easier.

Trusty Mutsi,

Try the gameplay section of the Sentinels of the Multiverse site, http://sentinelsofthemultiverse.com/gameplay It's mentioned on page 2.

It was in the original rules booklet but somehow dropped out of the EE rules.

Awesome, thank you!

Wow, we did pretty awesome beating him with 2 then :)

Yes you did!

It's actually mentioned at the bottom of page 11:

Well, now that I played the Atlantis location again today, I realized we screwed something up last night when we won. We discarded the Kraken every time it attacked the lowest HP player, rather than leave it in play (and we drew the card like 3 times in a row). Oops. Might be part of how we won

One of the harder parts of this game is reading comprehension. Everyone plays some cards incorrectly and in later playthroughs rereads the cards and realizes the mistakes. There is a learning curve but it's pretty easy to pick up and play and it just gets better with each  playthrough.

Atlantis and Blade can be a bad combination, since Atlantis can play the top card of the villain deck during the environment turn. Rook City can also be potentially very bad with Blade.

Atlantis can be a total killer with the Matriarch too, in particular the Mystical Defenses when there are a load of birdies out...

The Matriarch is a total killer in most places, but yes, anything that automatically kills all her birds or makes her play additional cards is awful.

Well, I tried Tempest, Bunker, and Absolute Zero against Citizen Dawn at Insula Primalus. Didn't have any trouble. This games seems to be a bit easy.

Am I just getting lucky cards? Should I start using the advance rules, or just play with 2 heroes?

With that combo, that villain, and that environment?  You got pretty lucky chief.

Dawn is notorious at our table for clearing out equipment at the least opportune time, and your group is really reliant on equipment and ongoings.  Plus, deck control would be at a premium...

The fact that you didn't have any trouble makes think you did something wrong. Maybe you did somehow get really lucky, but I found her very challenging the first 3 times I played her (and with three heroes like you). It wasn't until the third game that I finally bested her and I had to try a different environment. I typically face her with 4 heroes as I find her probably the most challenging villian in the base game. If you think she is easy, you gotta be doing something wrong.

Are you remembering to keep villian ongoings in play?  The team you went with doesn't have a lot of ways to kill ongoings (AZ has one that I can think of) and Dawn's can be brutal (Return with the Dawn, the one where they keep healing, the one where she keeps playing the next card, etc.). If it says ongoing then it stays in play.  Only one-shots are used and then discarded immediately.

I guess I DID get lucky, 'cause I kept ongoings in play. I'll try the same combo again and see what happens.

Tempest has a one-shot that gets rid of 2 ongoings (I think).

Tempest has Ball Lightning that can get rid of 1 ongoing and AZ has Fueled Freeze that can destroy 3.

Tempest's Flash Flood can destroy 2 Environment cards.
