I am a noob. We've only played one game but I am pretty anal about rules. I have been combing the forums and reading through a lot of what people have said. I was wondering about the damage boost. Is galvanize a boost to all types of damage being dealt by a hero? For example, if a hero does 3 melee damage and 1 projectile damage in the same attack will they get plus 1 to each damage type for a total of 4 melee and 2 projectile? If this has been answered, please link me the forum. I have just been looking page to page. Thanks in advance, and feel free to forward me on to any wiki, faqs or all around good forum posts. After one game of the enhanced edition I can tell I will be spending a lot of money on this game, only wish I had found it sooner.
Galvanize increases all damage dealt by a Hero. That includes multiple instances of damage from one Hero (such as Haka's Taiaha, increasing both hits from 3 to 4 damage) and even damage a Hero does to themselves (such as through Fanatic's Divine Focus or Tachyon's Pushing the Limits).
Welcome to the game, by the way! Enjoy your new addiction! :D
Welcome! What PlatinumWarlock said. In addition, the best FAQ is Spiff's collected rulings: http://www.spiffworld.com/sotm/files/sotm_rules_and_clarifications.pdf . Lots of other good stuff on his page, take a look.
Thanks for the quick response!
A slight add to the previous points - Legacy adds one to each hero target's damage, not just the hero's character card. For the most part, this doesn't matter, but there is a character where most of the damage comes from other sources than the hero.
Yes, her name is Unity. Some of her One-Shots and such have her dealing the damage herself, but mostly the Bots do it. Doesn't matter for Legacy, but there's another character named the Argent Adept who hands out pluses and minuses to one or two hero targets at a time; he would have to pick Unity and her Bots separately, and you'd have to pay attention to where the damage was coming from.
It occurs to me to ask, just to be sure: if Legacy dies, does the effect of his Galvanize remain in effect until the start of his incap turn? All a hero's cards stop affecting gameplay when they're incapped, but a lingering effect from a One-shot or a Power that specified a duration should run its course, even after its instigator's death? I'm pretty certain it would, but I've been mistaken before.
Yes. If a card specifies a specific time frame, it will go until the timw frame ends.
I think I remember seeing that Unforgiving Wasteland can take heroes out of the game (instead of flipping). If Legacy galvanizes and then gets eaten, he never gets a next turn. Does Galvanize last forever (or at least until the next game in which Legacy is present)?
Discussed a little bit here: https://greaterthangames.com/comment/34847#comment-34847
But we don't have an official ruling.
That is hilarious. And entirely thematically appropriate - an even more horrible death for legacy means a permanent Galvanize for his team, just as the loss of his daughter Galvanized Angry Paul. It fairly obviously wouldn't apply to heroes who weren't in the game at the time, and I wouldn't allow them to go their separate ways and keep the bonus in unrelated games ("AZ, why are you Thermodynamicking for 2 with no cards in play?" "BECAUSE I'M SAD"), but I could see an argument for having the exact same team of heroes, minus Legacy, retain the bonus in future games as long as you keep them together. It'd make sort of a neat theme-game series.
So all we need to do is have Legacy Galvanize, Tachyon Hypersonic assault and Nightmist Mistbound a villain then all get removed from the game by unforgiving wasteland.
Then no matter who the fourth hero is they would have to really try hard to lose, since the villain can't play new cards, none of the cards in play could deal damage, and they get a +1 to damage.
We could go five players and have Adept give them some reduction and damage buffs as well.
I understand the desire to not allow such a thing, but the effect is not dependant upon the card being in play or even in the game for certain abilities.
If the removed from the game hero does not get a turn, then they get no start of turn, so the timing for the expiration cannot occur. Just like if Haka skips his turn he can keep Ground Pound out, if the removed from the game hero doesn't have a start of turn, the effect continues.
I would say that they still have a turn, that turn would be dependant upon the player and play area, just like their (H) value. They would not have a character card, so they would have no incap abilities to choose from, nor would they have a deck to draw from or a hand to play cards from, or powers to use. So they would start and end their turn with no options to do anything.
I don't know if this means anything, but Galvanize and Mistbound say until "your" turn, not "(the heroe's)" turn. We would then have to know if the player loses the turn also.
It is worth noting that Omitron's character card simply says to remove it from the game, but it doesn;t specify that you keep playing cards. If you would inherently lose your turn when removed from the game, it would have made sense to say that the villain still has a turn on Omni's card. (If the villain didn't have a turn, that condition is basically pointless.)
Not quite. If they have a turn, they could skip their turn for "skip your turn" effects.
