Lugaru's Awful Alternative Cards.

So I've been promising home made promo villains for a while, and this has been done but I REALLY wanted to playtest it before unleashing it. No such luck of course, so meet Voss the Mad Geneticist, warts and all.

It should be designed to print to the right size, in other words a proper oversized card. Lots of defects, I know, but I'm far from being good at photoshop. Also if anyone wants my template, feel free to ask. Lastly I still need to add the nemesis Icon, but I've been a little busy with my own projects.

Also the text is separate in the template... so changing the text is super easy and will happen as I get feedback.

Concerning "Look at the top minion in the villain trash..." etc on his front side...

Is this meant to be part of the At the Start of Turn section of the text implying each new villain turn he gains new abilities? Or is this meant to be interpretted more as whenever a minion goes to the villian trash voss gains their powers and immunites?

And based on either interpretation...is this cumulative (nothing indicates losing those abilites and this may become hard to track) or meant to be just for that round/until a new minion goes to the trash?

Very interested in seeing this one in action. You've been mentioning development of this alternate card for some time and I've been intrigued from the beginning. I wanted to make an alternate timeline evil tempest to play as an alternate for the voss deck but what you've come up with here looks better then any ideas i fiddled with.

ALSO: I assume he should still have the Thorian label? Oversized cards just have a habit of missing those :)

I like it. I'd also like to have the template.

Typo: Genebound

I'm intrigued as to top of trash mechanics, but there's never been a precdent for that. Maybe you should change the mechanics to:

Setup:

Discard one random minion.

Gameplay:

At the start of the turn, destroy any minions attached to Voss.

At the start of the turn, remove 1 random minion from the trash and attach to Voss. Voss has the same immunity as the minion.

At the end of the turn, Voss uses the same ability as the attached minion.

Koga has a better template for illustrator users, but I'll post my photoshop one.

This is a rar of my fairly sad template.

I love thos suggestions.. the big Gene Stealing Voss will come back soon and greately improved.. also for a Tempest version of Voss you could have him imitate some Tempest powers. He could also start with one of the big ships instead of minions, and cannot be harmed if there is a ship in play.

That ship idea is one I'd been fiddling with…that and having him do direct lightning attacks.

Here's the Work-in-progress (not playtested, though):

During a battle with Omnitron, despite destroying the rampaging robotics factory, Omnitron-X received heavy damage and was deactivated. After Dr. Stinson got the finest robotic scientists together to find a way to reactivate it, Omnitron-X escaped the lab, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake. It seemed that its empathy chip was damaged during the fight. Upon reactivation, Omnitron-X immediately made a connection with the remains of its past self. It knew what it must do. It rallied all the remaining drones. It would win by sheer numbers.

Thoughts? (I'm still working on the swarm side art)

EDIT: Upon looking at it, the DR might be TOO much on his backside if he gets too many components out.

I don't think Voss should have the Genebound keyword, since it refers to people who've had their will eliminated by his genetic alterations, and Grand Warlord Voss hasn't had his will eliminated.

Totally digging that so far, nice art too.

As for Voss I guess he could be a Genetic Abomination.

Glad to see somebody using this... hopefully this weekend I will have a more intuitive version of Voss and a new Matriarch.

The DR's going to be off the charts considering that you're playing 1-4 components every single round. Most heroes have a hard time even cutting through 2 DR without specific combos, and you need to do damage to Omnitron to get rid of them. If you fail to destroy all of the components every round, the DR's going to stack up into the 4-6 range. Which is game over unless you have End of Days, Irreducible damage, or multi-target ongoing destruction. In general I don't really feel like you should lose for having one dead round.

Also, note that you're unlikely to play many drones once Omnitron flips. They should all be in the trash or in play from before, and he'll melt fast under the additional damage from killing drones. I suppose you could purposefully stall or something, but it seems like you'd normally have plenty of deck left by the time it flips. This also feeds into my first point. If all of the drones are in the trash, over a third of Omnitron's remaining deck is components. This means it's not unlikely that you're adding an extra component to the H-2 each round, making the DR even more insane.

I would drop the component damage reduction, or change it to something like "If there is a component in play, reduce damage done to Omnitron by H-2." This can be in addition to reducing damage per drone, but remember that you're not all that likely to see many drones post-flip.

Another option is you could completely rework the flipside to pull Drones instead of components. Also this way it could pull a mess of them (like H-1), which would force the heroes to deal with the drones before they dealt with Omnitron itself. The thought of having to cut through its swarm to get to it is appealing thematically, and it would feel pretty different from other villains.
