Minion-Maker + Summoned Allies Clarification

The Minion Maker archetype, as part of character generation selects a number of minion forms which they give to minions they make at time of creation.

My question is simple: If a Minion Maker takes the Red Zone ability Summoned Allies, can they apply Minion Forms to the minions they make using the Summoned Allies Red Zone ability?

Summoned Allies: Use [power] and create a number of minions equal to your Mid die. Choose whether they all can Attack, Defend, Boost, Hinder, or Overcome. They all act at the start of your turn.

I've been running it at my table that they can, provided that they can pay the normal cost to do so for each minion they apply a form to.

I'm pretty sure you can use summoned allies as any other minion under your control

Actually, I'd argue that you can't.  The chart and forms are all specifically attached to the Make Minion ability; they're not an Inherent thing.  Similarly, if you took the Summon Ally from Nature, which represents summoning an animal, how could you apply upgrades to that?  It makes no sense.

My instinctive reaction is that sure, you can set it up for that... but if you do, that's the only kind of minion it summons. So if you're a Ghostmaster, all you're summoning is Ghosts; if you're a robot maker, nought but bots.

Then again, I come from a background of running Champions,  in which you buy the effect, then skin it to fit. EG:  If you're the  time-displaced starship captain Greenshirt, it's a beamdown of security goons in red velour... just in the nick of time.
