Was looking at the promos for villains tonight to think about how I would play the new promos and was looking at naturalist ability. Where you get to pick what form powers the naturist gets to use. So my question for a discussion will be how useful will the form cards be using this promo.
advantage: you have a lot of choices to do. So could be using advantages from both alligator and rhino forms powers.
Disadvantage: possibility of a dead card in your hand and have to spend on play phase to get that form card down. Also form cards have powers so you would have to project a turn in ahead if you want to use a different forms ability from one shots than the form you want.
here is actually a question that would be good to get an official ruling on with this card. If I have a rhino form down and use the prey power to be able to use alligator form abilities from one shots, then in my next turn I can use both alligators and rhino form abilities on one shots. I play a one shot that has both forms on there like primal charge or the power on natural form power,technically since both forms are active, then nothing should stop you from activating both since it should resolve everything on the card when played. In the case of natural form since they are all listed under the same power then again all should resolve. Is this a correct assumption and the plan for this deck since this almost feels a bit overpowered for this deck. Or do we still only pick one of the 3 in this case?
Remember that his forms are much harder to find in his deck now though, there's only one copy of each, because his base power previously let him pull them out so easily. And if they go to the trash, he doesn't have good ways to pull them back out. Even with that drawback, I agree that his variant feels very powerful. It opens up new crazy combos with Guise, using "I can do that too". If any of the new promos require revision, I bet this will be the one.
I will agree that the form cards will be more difficult to get out. However once one is out then shenanigans will begin if I am understanding things correctly when 2 forms are active. Plus what about other heroes that let another hero use a power? Chances of all three being active at once can make crazy moves, draw 4 cards and then 5 damage in one card is insane.
Yup, it's possible to do it now with Bestial Shift or Fixed Point (which I pulled off all 3 in play once and it was awesome) but Desperate Prey makes those shenanigans much more liekly. The tradeoff is losing the inherent bonuses on the forms which actually make a difference (especially in Croc). It is a very powerful promo ability
Fixed Point makes wonderful things possible. Normally you can have only one form in play, because whenever a form enters play, all other forms are destroyed. But Fixed Point prevents all cards from leaving play, so if you play or put into play his forms while FIxed Point is in play, you'll turn him into a gazhinodile.
The power level of the new promo depends on how soon you get a form, and how long you keep it in play.
If you take him into random matches the promo should be slightly less powerful, largely because you can't switch from +1 to -1 as the situation warrants. Desperate Prey is a lot of fun, and a great promo. It has a lot of strebgths, but you lose a lot and gain a lot. It is a great promo.
I’m relatively new to them, but I think that’s the best kind of promo! I love it when the new power completely changes how you look at a deck, without that being obvious up front. (An example is Dark Visionary, with whom I’m much more likely to play her damage-dealing one-shots than her more Visionary-unique cards, because her power always gives her deck manipulation capability.) Naturalist’s promo looks like that sort of thing to me: not necessary better or worse, but VERY different. I’m excited for it.
Well, to be fair, the Naturalist obviously isn't a naturalist either, since a naturalist is one who claims there is no supernatural whatsoever. Since his powers ARE supernatural, I think it's safe to assume the Naturalist isn't actually a naturalist.
