New actual play using Strikeforce Morituri setting

That’s the old 80’s Marvel series, if the name means nothing to you. Not my favorite comics by a long shot, but given the dearth of SCRPG presence these days I’ll give just about anything a shot.

Oh, I remember that series. Had a buddy who was a devoted collector. :+1:

I don’t think I read the whole thing (there was a fair bit beyond the original Horde storyline, apparently) but I remember the early stages of it. Like I said, not my favorite even among primarily-scifi comics, but okay and an interesting setting for a short RPG campaign. Preferred other things in that era like Dynamo Joe, Starslayer, Camelot 3000, Adam Warren’s Dirty Pair books, Grimjack, etc.

Not sure how well the “everyone uses Experiment for Power Source” thing’s going to work out without further mods, but maybe it’ll be okay.

I do like the fact it’s Session Zero and the GM has already rolled d12 for each PC to determine how many months they’ve got till the Morituri Process kills them though. Nice commitment to the premise that you could probably only get away with in an actual play.

First actual play session is up already.

Like I suspected, having an entire team where everyone could take the very strong ally-defense/minion Redirect reaction presents some issues, and similarly group access to Unflagging makes penalties quite a bit weaker than the norm. At least not everyone took either ability, but there’s at least two copies of each. Universal Experimentation as a power source is thematic as it gets for this campaign, but there just aren’t enough options to avoid significant overlap in ability choices - at least not by the book. Adding another 2-3 Yellow and 1-2 Green abilities would probably alleviate a lot of that.

Te salutamus?

Looking up the original series, it looks like the Morituri Process had a genetic aspect to it, so to provide more variety perhaps one could mix the Experimentation and Genetic power sources, and allow each hero to select their powers and abilities from either in any combination.
