Newb Question/Back of Hero Cards

Hello, 

I just bought SotM. Looking forward to the first games tonight. 

On the back of the Hero cards there are 3 bullet points that seem to affect the game. I don't see how to determine how and when these come into play.

If your character reaches 0 HP, you flip them over. Then, every time it's your turn, rather than taking a normal turn, you chose one of those three actions as your turn.

When your hero is reduced to 0 HP, you remove all cards, except the character card, for that hero from play and flip the character card. Then each turn, that hero can use one of those three bullet pointed abilities but that's it as they no longer have a hand or deck to play with.
