I had a conversation with a friend, and we came up with something interesting for entertainment. I was talking with my friend and we talked about who would win in a chairman vs matriarch battle. What I thought of is pit two villians against each other. All opposing targets are treated as Hero targets for the character, H is equal to the difficulty of the villian +1 (so H for baron is 2, while H for chairman would be 5, etc.). Take turns playing the top card of each deck and go until one villian is standing or meets any alternate losing conditions. I'ts not tested, so I don't know how well it will work, but it seems like something fun to do when I'm bored. I haven't worked out any kinks for advanced rules yet, so feel free to give me ideas. Environments is also not out of the question, just because of the villians that have cards that play around the environment.
Feel free to tell me any feedback, or if my idea is dumb. I am writing this while tired, so it could sound better now than when i wake up tomorrow.
And I am aware IL will likely kill them all, but there isn't much different between that and the heros
I've actually had similar ideas, although I was thinking about Akash'bhuta vs Deadline due to thematic connections. That matchup in particular would almost certainly end with Deadline's victory every time, since his alternate win condition is so fast. But with some house rules, I think you could create some interesting exhibition matches.
And of course, the Dreamer and Wager Master are problematic, as is probably Miss Information.
Well, what I would assume is that ongoings are pretty obvious, but the equipment destruction would a the main issue, considering none of the villians actually have equipment, (and wager master for sure). Some of them would take tweaking, like for example you could house rule what could be considered equipment and treat it as such (like apostates relics, ambuscades devices, and whatnot) but its an idea i will explore in the future for sure. I was just going to start with villans that would be more simple to do. People like the chairman, omnitron, voss, and dawn. Another thing is for stuff like Spite's Drugs, what would a power be considered? I was just thinking any end of turn effects that happen from the main card.
I would (and previously have) just set H to 4 - villains with higher difficulties already have better cards, so I don't see a reason to give them another boost by upping their H.
Also, first Smilinbrax then me did spend some time throwing villains at each other, if you're interested: https://greaterthangames.com/forum/topic/sentinels-multiverse-villain-death-match
I don't think I worded that as well as I should. When I say their H value is 5, i mean the H value a villian would use against them, not the H value they would use. So the matriarch is a difficulty 4, any card that uses H used against her would have an H value of five. But if she was up against a villian with difficulty 2, her card woulds would act as if H equals 3
Ah, I see! That would be quite an interesting balancing feature. My one concern in that cas would be villains like Gloomweaver, whose ratings are, err, not quite representative :P
yeah, that was in the back of my mind too (although ambuscade was the one that came to mind)
