We gave SotM to three more niecephews this evening and played a game with them. The younger two (8.5 and 9 years old) struggled to follow everything that was going on, but the eleven year old had no trouble. All had a good time.
I think the people I could spread SotM the most to would be my other friends at far away colleges, because I played a round with them and they said they might have to get one for themselves for their college. They seemed to enjoy it.
Good to hear! I have an 11 year old in my life who I think would love the game, but I was worried that it would be a bit beyond his grasp. Maybe I’ll just have him try it out and start with characters with easier to grasp mechanics (maybe Ra?). Did you take this route in introducing the game or just let them choose whichever characters sounded cool?
I haven’t done anything different for kids – I suggest they shouldn’t start w/ Bunker or AZ because those decks tend to be frustrating if you don’t know the cards, but otherwise give them a little backstory about each and let them choose. The boys all chose Ra or Haka first. The girl picked The Wraith. It’s a small sample size, of course (three boys, one girl).
