Other hobbies?

So, we all obviously have gaming in common as a thing we do for fun, but that generally isn’t the ONLY thing we do. What other hobbies to people have? What weird and exciting things do you people do for fun?

I dress up in funny clothes on the weekend and pretend I’m a 9th/10th century Khazar (http://www.sca.org)
I also sew for that, as well as modern clothing and costumes (http://tamarbatavraham.wordpress.com/)

Who else does something cool? Surfing or water colors or raising chinchillas and dying them purple?

I like doing this:

class LegacyRingCard : LastingCard { public override bool IsLimited { get { return true; } } public override string[] Keywords { get { return new string[] {"Equipment"}; } } public override bool PlayLastingCard() { this.Player.PowerCount += 1; } public override Destroy() { this.Player.PowerCount -= 1; } }

I’m pretty sure you’re just using computer words now… o_O

Coding is too much like learning a foreign language, which I’m terrible at, but I’m glad other people do it so I have things like games and the internets!

I haven’t made anything new in a long time, but once upon a time I used to make WoW music videos for Jonathan Coulton (and other’s) songs: http://www.youtube.com/user/spiffworld?feature=mhee.

SotM taking all your time, Spiff?

I run a collection of role-playing games, most in what we affectionately refer to as AD&D 2.7 (in a campaign world I’ve been running since 1984) and another in Pathfinder.

Been having a strange urge to run Traveller, lately, though. I’m also planning a sequel to a game I ran a couple years ago using a customization of the Everway rules (diceless role-playing).

I also volunteer for some local organizations. For example, I screen films for and work at the Heartland film festival here in Indianapolis and I do some things for the Coalition for Homelessness Intervention and Prevention of Greater Indianapolis (CHIP) - when time allows.

And, of course, helping out with Sentinels where I can. ;D

Just wish I had more time to do all these things… :-\

I play Magic the Gathering. A lot. Also, I just knit a Mobius strip. Geek cred, I gots it. 8)

I train dogs, both professionally and in my free time. I also roleplay a lot. Add in my writing and that doesn’t leave much left over.

I write reviews of craft beers, books, restaurants, films, etc. Also we engage in Iron Chef style battles. Let me know what you think, I just rebuilt the site.

I also design tabletop games, although these days most of them never get past the word document. Designing games is like a sudoku puzzle for me… you have blank squares that you need to fit numbers, rules and ideas into.

I work in a game store where I’m exposed to more shiny objects than my wallet can sustain. It does give me a chance to pimp out great superhero card games to customers, though.

Beyond that? Uh… My friends and I gather each week from 6PM until around 2AM watching movies (usually bad horror movies) and making fun of them. If you dedicate one night a week to watching bad horror movies, the universe will succumb to heat death before you run out.

Hey, I actually remember watching some of those forever ago! Very cool. I’ve contemplated trying to do some fan vid stuff for various shows or movies, but I’ve been too lazy to figure out how to really go about it so far.

Any particular breed?

That looks pretty cool. I’m not a beer person, but I could eat that entire flourless chocolate cake :stuck_out_tongue: and I would like to high five whoever is doing the duckface on your front page

I’m not allowed to work in a Book store, fabric store, comic store or game store. I would never bring money home from my paychecks if I did.
If you guys haven’t checked out the movie Black Sheep, you are cheating yourselves out of a truly hilariously horrific viewing experience.

Well, “my breed” is Siberian Husky. I’ve trained about everything by now, but I still specialise in sled dogs.

Easily the coolest thing I’ve read today, and it had decent competition, believe you me.

Don’t get me started on dogs, friend. There’s more where that came from. I could talk your ear off just about Banshee, my husky puppy.

Pics or it didn’t happen! :stuck_out_tongue:
I grew up with Mastiffs and an Irish Wolfhound, so I’m a fan of big cuddly dogs. Not so much a fan of the cold though, so I don’t know that I’d do so well with that part.

I work as a Unix consultant, and as a result I script stuff for fun sometimes. However, aside from an ever-growing board game collection, my most commonly performed hobbies are racquetball and rock climbing. I recently moved to Austin, TX, so I expect to start climbing a lot more outdoors (previously, I climbed primarily at an indoor gym).

I design board and card games as well as play a wide variety of them (for research don’t ya know). I have the added advantage of working in a game store so I see all that is new and interesting. It’s not as hard as you might think to avoid spending all your money there. I also (guilty secret here) make custom dice bags.

What kind of dice bags?

Wait just one minute there people, there are hobbies outside of gaming? I don’t believe any of it for a minute.

In all honesty though I don’t really have any other hobby. Video Games are a fairly expensive budget and between rent, food, and a one and a half year old I don’t even have much money to spend on that. I do enjoy writing, but I have trouble actually sitting down and typing everything the way I want so I have given up on that. Though as a child I had notebooks full of stick people comics that I had drawn up, drawing makes storytelling so much easier though. Since I don’t have a very artistic touch (my stick folk could also use a major revamping) I ended up steering clear of that as well.

Well up until a few minutes ago my hobbies included studying and doing homework, but I finished my final highschool final a few minutes ago. My life no longer has purpose. I have been tossed into the void and know not which direction to turn.

Oh wait…college.
