So I've been 100% addicted to the incredible SotM: Video Game lately. My favourite thing to do is click "random", cut down to 3 heroes, and see how many times it takes me to win. So far it's been 4 or 5 times at most...until the current match I've run into.
In this order: Absolute Zero, The Visionary and Tempest, going up against Plague Rat in the Ruins of Atlantis. I've played it about 20-25 times now and I can't even get PR below 50 health. Is there a strategy I'm missing, or is this combination just genuinely impossible?
Help me out, it's driving me mad! (after my 25th straight loss, I decided to play a different random game: I got Haka, Tempest and Ra...against Plague Rat in the Ruins of Atlantis. I died just as quickly as I did with the other team. Help!)
Visionary could throw Twist the Ether on the Rat (and Absolute Zero if need be), then hide in a Cucoon. Also, once Tempy is incapped, he can help mitigate the damage the other heroes take.
That is a hard matchup, putting twist on AZ and cocooning Vis helps (esp if you can wrest a kraken or mystic weaponry), I always let him flip then destroy infections. Tempest you want Shackles as fast as possible.
The game is a damage race, so things like Wrest on a Kraken (3 to vis and 5 to rat is a win) and stratosphering a non-infection ongoing, or even suggestion can really make a difference in buying you another round of life.
Just don't get sucked into downpour, extending the game lets rat cycle his best cards.
AZ's Fueled Freeze is a good card to save until he's flipped -- you can clear out all three and hit Plague Rat for pretty solid damage, especially if you've got any buffs (Twist the Ether and Focused Apertures).
AZ is going to be doing a lot of the legwork here. Get the Null Point Calibration unit out as soon as possible, followed by Twist the Ether and Infection -- you're now automatically healing AZ for 3 each turn, 4 if you get Focused Apertures out. It also makes all the cards that should do AZ fire damage into massive heals -- Hoarfire, Frost-Bound Drain and Thermal Shockwave will let him heal 10s of HP in a round with this set-up.
Get Twist the Ether on Plague Rat next and keep AZ's HP high, and he should outright absorb most of the Rat's big attacks. Use Visionary's power to get AZ his cards quicker, he's the top priority. As mentioned, use her to deal with the environment, either mind controlling a Kraken or using her cards to influence the deck.
Tempest should get Cleansing Downpour on the table as soon as possible and use it as his primary power. Into The Stratosphere is a good way to stall Plague Rat if you toss an Infection card (It's not destroying it, so it doesn't incur that attack) or Plague Locus on top of his deck.
If you can keep ahead of Plague Rat's constant damage, it's doable. Tough, but doable.
Edit: Well, a day late and a dollar short, I guess.
