Pride and Prejudice

Does Pride's power (to let you use Prejudice's power), supercede the rule that an individual card's power can only be used once per turn?

Ex: Expatriate has in play (and in this order) Tactical Shotgun (Incendiary rounds), Prejudice, Pride, Flack Jacket, and submachine gun.  She plays unload.  My group has decided that all of the powers must be used in the order that the cards were played in, so prejudice goes off before pride does. When pride goes off, can I use Prejudice's ability again?

If so, It means I should make an effort to make sure Prejudice is always in play before I put pride into play.

What say you?

  Thanks in advance.

That's a bizarre choice of your group, to make you use the powers in order, particularly in situations like this.

To answer your question, I don't think Pride should let you override the prohibition against using the same power multiple times, as it doesn't explicitly mention it. (The only case I know that does override it is Mr. Fixer's Overdrive.)

You choose the order.

you do not follow order they enter play.

So if you chose to activate Prejudice first, does Pride allow you to use Prejudice again?

Unload lets you choose which powers you use, and they don’t have to all be guns. So even with the weird house rule your group uses, you’d still be able to choose not use Prejudice as part of Unloads effect (choosing to use Load instead, perhaps), and then you can use it with Pride’s effect.

As others have said: no, Pride won't let you fire Prejudice twice. You can use your guns in any order, and not all the powers you use have to be guns. This does mean that if you have, say, Shotgun, Pride and Prejudice, you can use Load to play Unload, and then use the two powers you get from that on the Shotgun and then Pride... no power left for Prejudice, but Pride lets you fire it anyway, so that's fine :D (It wouldn't work if you fired Pride before the Shotgun though; then Load, Pride and Prejudice would be your three powers used, even if you only fired Prejudice because of Pride.)

You can absolutely use Prejudice twice in a single turn. You guys are dropping the ball on the OP here.

Example:

Pride and Prejudice are in play. You play Unload to gain (2) power uses. Use Prejudice first. Then use Pride. Since it specifically and explicitly tells you to use Predudice, you are allowed to do so.

This is similar to two cases:

1) Overdrive. You can use the same power twice when given explicit instructions to do so

2) Effects that break other base rules, like effects that allow you to play multiple cards during your play phase when the normal rule is play 1 card.

I agree with Foote.

The only Qualifier on the card is that Prejudice is in play.

Bang bang bang!

(That was the sound of Prejudice and then Pride and then Prejudice again!)

Wowzers! Unloading with just Pride and Prejudice just a little sweeter if in a tight situation.

FAQ'd (soon).

Yup, thats how my group has always done it, and the exact reason why as well.

I didn't think that was legal... dang I love Expat more now

I'm really surprised people find this surprising!

I'm surprised that you're suprised that they're surprised.  :stuck_out_tongue:

I think it's one of those things you make an assumption about that never gets challenged.

I've never played it this way, but once someone said something I wa like, "Oh, yeah, that would work wouldn't it."

Wow...you know, I'd never even considered this was possible - it just never occurred to me. Cool - more dakka*! :D

*Well, okay, pistols don't really go "dakka", but I use the term as a generic "bullet-shooty-gun" noise (as opposed to a generic "laser-shooty-gun" noise which would be "pew pew" :D).

On a related note:  If you play Unload with a shotgun in play, and and then use Load to play "Pride", will you be able to fire a gun?  Or to put it another way:  If the number of guns changes after Unload has been played, does the number of available power uses change with it?

Hmm...personally I would say no because Unload looks at how many guns you have in play at the time it gets played itself - I would see Unload as saying "You can use X powers this turn, whre X the number of guns currently in your play area". If you only had one gun at the time, you would only be able to use one power, even if you use that power to put out a second gone - by that point, Unload has been and gone, its one-shot effect already triggered and telling you that you can use one power in your Power phase (because you only had one gun out at the time it was played).

I might be wrong, but that's how I see it, anyway :).
