You should probably also mention the mystery of the silvery, shadowy figure on Silver Shadow. My personal theory is that it is the secret sixth member of The Prime Wardens: The Operative in a Wraith costume!
It most certainly isn't the Silver Shadow in the title of the card.
Also I'm lying.
Someone take a close look at the Realm of Discord's art on the back of the deck. There's a guy holding up his hand that's casting light from it. Could that also be Prime Warden #5?
What fascinates me about the Prime Wardens is that they appear to be a magic-themed super team who know nothing about magic.
Argent Adept founded them, and his main hook is that he hasn't inherited all the lore he was meant to.
Fanatic is even worse off than Adept, since she doesn't know what she is and all.
Haka is a magical being, and I recently found out that he's a lot more together than the angry ghost I'd always assumed him to be, but I know of no evidence that he really understands magic, either.
Tempest doesn't even have that. He's an alien diplomat with mutation-based powers, who appears to be on the team strictly because he is totally awesome.
The heroes who do appear to know more are NightMist (freelancer who works with the Freedom Five), Ra (lone wanderer), and The Scholar (lonelier wanderer). So, unless red-and-gold-person fills this hole, we're left with a team of badasses who hunt threats they barely understand. That's a very novel idea, but I really feel bad for those guys.
Also, "Red-and-gold-person is far too cumbersome a nickname. The Enigma? Captain Gryffindor? The Auspicious Avenger? Daybreak? Portal Person? Anything, so long as we can be catchier in our ignorance.
His name is Prime Warden #5.
His nicknames include Fives, Fiver, and Lincoln.
i considered the Prime Wardens more to be 'Natural Theme' heroes - not natural like the wraith is a natural power hero, but have to do with nature
Argent is the foil and counter of Akash'bhuta the Chaos of Mother Earth
Tempest Controls the Weather
Haka is the Aborigine warrior of the New Zealand Outback
Fanatic is the natural order of God and Heaven (... okay kind of a stretch there)
Who knows what Fiver is yet.
New Zealand is awfully small to have its own "outback," but I see your point. And one hero not fitting the theme is no worse than my "magic heroes" assumption, which failed to include Tempest. If nothing else, the Prime Wardens were formed to counter Akash'Bhuta (never suspecting that the dread Chaos Mother is no tougher than a giant rat), so them having members such as Tempest chosen to counter her powers makes sense.
By that token, Five Warden should be in response to some aspect of Akash'Bhuta the others don't handle. Let's see... Argent Adept is an all-around threat to her, Haka would counter Earth (Ground Pound and the like), Fanatic is Air superiority, Tempest controls water, so Fiver seems like they should handle the fire side of things, fitting with the color scheme. That might be too Ra-esque, though. With portals in the mix as well, however, one might suppose a demonic theme (though Fanatic would probably object).
Interestingly, Ironic did have it right about the Prime Wardens forming to counter Akash'Bhuta, I can't remember where Christopher had said it but he did explain they formed for the purpose of defeating her. Now everything else regarding it I am not positive about, maybe someday it'll be revealed?
Now all we need is the crossover between the Freedom Five and the Prime Wardens versus every big name Sentinels villain.
That could be fun, but to see an arc with both teams unwittingly pitted against each other would be would be more fun, to me at least.
Some days I really hate that this isn't a for real series of comics.
I have a small inkling to think that PW#5 will have something to do with matter, since the form around his hand seems to look like an atom. Though maybe this won't be the case since The Scholar has a matter-realignment theme going on.
You'd have to be careful with that. Every hero in both lineups has some fan favorites, so a battle between them would have to be carefully orchestrated so that not too many fans feel cheated. Fights brought through misunderstandings is a common occurence in comics, though, and it would be interested to see how these characters would fight each other and then work together at the end when the misunderstanding is reconciled.
I think that would be easy enough to do, once you find a way to take Legacy and Haka off the table. Those two are not only two of the nicest guys around, they're also both tough enough to attempt a parley in the middle of a pitched battle, knowing they can survive any fallout. But with them gone, it's totally plausible that military man (and second-in-command of the Freedom Five) Bunker and inexperienced young Argent Adept could be maneuvered into rash battle. But who could do such a thing?
The classic culprit in a teamup story would be both of their villains at once, which in this case means a Blade/Bhuta alliance. That seems to present a problem, in that Akash'Bhuta is too busy being incomprehensible and being on top of the alphabetization pecking order to ally with mere mortals; however, Baron Blade trying to syphon off the Chaos Mother's power is a whole different story. I really like this idea - inspired by the Mad Bomber, I've tried my hand at a few variant cards for Blade representing different schemes, but they tend to run into the problem that, whatever his abilities, his cards just aren't that impressive (though, to be fair, I'm only assuming that Bhuta's are better, since I haven't managed to track down Infernal Relics yet).
Mmm. Some preliminary battle against another villain, providing the distraction to remove Legacy or Haka, then a team-versus team showdown followed by a final battle with a custom Baron Blade using Akash'Bhuta's deck... that would be a pretty great series of games. Once I do get Relics, I need to get on variant rules for this.
Probably in a new thread, rather than derailing this one further, though. For shame, me.
If we're comparing to the Australian Outback, then I'll grudgingly agree.
Otherwise, I can assure you that New Zealand is plenty big enough to have an outback. For some pretty evidence, check out the Lord of the Rings movies.
Fair enough. When I was backpacking in Australia and New Zealand, they just called the (expansive, amazing) wild country "the bush," while "the Outback" specifically referred to Australia's substantial desert, which may the one terrain feature other than glaciers which New Zealand lacks. However, in the more general sense of "untamed land," NZ has plenty.
You're not saying that New Zealand has no glaciers are you? It definitely does.
Haha, this would be an amazing scene. I can totally imagine Legacy and Haka wrestling and making pleasant conversation at the same time, while the others are fighting around them. And then they stand up straight, dust themselves off, and tell everyone playtime is over
I know of a certain promo villain that seems to fit this profile
Right you are, though that was what I was (incorrectly) saying. I'd like to type "serves me right for never making it to the South Island," but apparently there were some on the North Island, too! Crazy. Even more embarrasing, there's a desert, too, and one I came pretty close to. The moral of the story is: New Zealand has every terrain type. Doubt its splendor at your peril.
LCinn, that does indeed sound like a great scene. Lots of fun, and good for a short skirmish (I'm getting shades of the first meeting/battle between the Avengers and the X-Men which basically just ended when Thor said "they seem like stand-up dudes, let's go home," but obviously with a less one-sided battle proceeding that moment), though less of a dramatic altercation than the one I was pulling for by eliminating the Nice Invulnerable Guys.
And, you're right, Ambuscade would be perfect for the job of getting Haka and Legacy out of play. When I get him, I think my first game against the guy should be a two-player team of Haka and Legacy, for this reason.
I believe he's talking about Miss Information - dividing heroes and pitting them against each other is kinda her MO.
Bush. Thats the word i shoulda used not outback. Couldnt recall what my Kiwi friend called it
