Print & Play Version?

Hi all, I’ve been following Sentinels for a long time, and waiting for it to arrive at my FLGS.

Unfortunately my store that I support suppliers apparently can’t (or don’t have an agreement to) bring it in.

So I’m curious if a Print and Play version will be made available at some point, in the same way Yomi, and BattleCON have allowed.

I’d order from the site but $20-$30 for shipping to Canada on a $40 game makes no sense in this case.

Thanks!

Since you’re in Canada, we’ve got good news for you! We just shipped out a large order of games to a Canadian distributor a few days ago, so you might check back with your store and see if things have changed. If not, have your store contact us - we do deal directly with stores, as well.

It is highly unlikely that we will make a Print and Play version of Sentinels of the Multiverse, mainly because it would be SO MANY cards to print. However, if there is enough demand, it could be something we might consider.

That is potentially good news then! I’ll check at the store (which I also work at LOL) and find out if it’s available to us yet.

As for Print and Play it wouldn’t be any worse than Yomi. The trick is buying your printer ink online.

To be honest had P&P been an option I would have had it on release of the game. I’ve grown to appreciate having multiple options especially living north of the border.

Thanks for the quick response.

Which distributor(s) do you go through at your store in Canada? We love talking to distributors about carrying our games, in particular when we know they have customers who want them

I will check when I’m in tomorrow night. Probably something I should know anyway since I’m the ‘board game suggester’ at our store LOL

I can honestly think of 10-15 times minimum over the holidays where Sentinels would have been an easy recommendation had it been available.

Cool! Well, let me know when you find out, and I’ll get to work making sure that your distributor picks up the game

Just got in from work not too long ago…

We use Everest and Lion Rampant as our Distributors.

edit: I believe Lion Rampant is our primary distributor. And I didn’t see SotM on their list of products. :frowning: Might be faster to drive to your headquarters and fill up the car  LOL!

yes Lion Rampant is our prime games distributor.

We are not currently in distribution with them, but I’ll work on it. It will definitely help if you tell your sales rep that you want to purchase the game from them

Already been done.

But I suppose the original question still bears some merit.

I’d personally rather support the game maker with a P&P rather than trading for one on BGG.

At this time, we have no plans to include a print & play model of distribution for SotM.

How does Print & Play even work? I assume you’d pay then get access to the files to print at home. But how does the company keep people from sharing around those files for free?

At the end of the day that is the big question. And a legitimate one at that regarding piracy. I can appreciate the fact that it would scare a company off from doing it.

What happens (with others I’ve used) is you pay to download a high resolution PDF to print out the cards etc. at your own leisure, and cut them out. It takes a bit of work but honestly not that much. The kicker for a lot of people is to print them off at a very high quality it does use a fair bit of ink which of course can be expensive if you purchase your ink through retail.

You would print them out on anything from regular paper to card stock, and generally sleeve the cards, leaving the decision on whether or not to print the backs of the cards to the individual. If desired you then add a standard playing card or a magic card to the sleeve to give it some thickness. If you use card stock and print a front and back you generally don’t need to add anything.

For the most part P&P is handy when you just can’t get a product in your brick and mortar store. Otherwise for quality and ease you would always get the boxed product.

The only time I’ve seen it print and play work to a company’s advantage is when the print and play is either also for sale online (See Puzzle Strike, Yomi, or Flash Duel) or the print and play is free but is only a small subset of the game (Battlecon launched a print and play that was only 4 characters). These options work to some extent, but I prefer the Battlecon model of the two. Either way, I’m not sure how a print and play of SoTM would follow that model as you’d be printing 1 villain, 1 environment, and at least 3 heroes to make it work which would be like half the game (and a TON of ink). I think pressuring the distributors is a better solution in the long run. You can also order directly from the website here, and that would work. (I imagine)

Absolutely! We ship games all over the world! If your store can’t get it in, we CAN get it to you. However, Paul is also really good at making distributors realize their error of not carrying Sentinels of the Multiverse, so I wouldn’t be surprised if he was able to solve that issue fairly quickly.

re AWMiller: BattleCON’s system got me to buy their full P&P. I started with the demo and once we get their product in store (Which of course our distributor picked up ::slight_smile: ) I’ll pick it up and leave my P&P version as our store demo. But their system almost needed a demo so you could understand how the game worked. With Yomi they had the online version of their game as their demo. However with Yomi their price point was too high for me in comparison to what you got (despite the fact it is gorgeous) so the P&P was a better option for myself. Sentinels doesn’t really need a ‘demo’ if you have played a co-op before you should have a pretty good idea of the basics of the game. The trick with ink is to buy it online via ebay or a similar source. If you do some digging you can find some crazy deals. (I get two full sets of HP #2 ink for $20 incl. shipping which is 12 cartridges)

re Christopher: I have been on my local store to try and get the game in since release. That was even before I worked there! LOL Hopefully our distributor will pick it up soon. I can imagine Paul gently tapping a bat in his hands saying ‘you really want to carry this’ ;D

In regards to ordering from the site unfortunately as I said before 50%-75% on top of the purchase price to get it shipped is just too much when you have a limited gaming budget. Not the fault of you guys it’s just that damn border! I ship back and forth with the USA for board games, Subbuteo, and Electric Football and the shipping costs can be ugly as soon as you get over ‘small packets’ size.

Eventually it’ll get up here. Patience is apparently a virtue
