Just a quick one here - my Vengeance just arrived and I skimmed through some of the cards while I was sorting them out. One of them is the erm...engine thingys from the MDP environment. This card did come up when I played Vengeance games before but there is just one thing I want to check - it says that if it is "reduced to zero or fewer hp", game over, everyone dies. I just want to check whether Game Over still occurs if you insta-kill it with something (eg Grappling Hook, Sarabande). I have a feeling it doesn't, because you're not reducing its hp but removing it from play entirely (well, into the trash, at least), but I just want to confirm for when it inevitably comes up in a game at some point ;).
Destroying it without reducing it's HP to 0 or lowr would not fulfill that requirement.
Cool, so it is possible to get rid of it without dying horribly, then. That's what I thought but just wanted to check :).
Shooting at the main engine of a flying fortress - BAD. Using Blinding Speed to safely remove it from the premises - GOOD. (Flash Flood doesn't quite make sense, and Bio-Engineering Beam makes no sense at all, but still, the idea that you don't want to ATTACK a giant nuclear-or-whatever reactor is pretty grokkable.)
Really? You can flex some abstract thought muscles here if you wanted to.
Maybe Tempest washed all the batallion members away from the Engine, securing it's safety (for the moment). Bio-Engineering Beam could be Omni-X interfacing with the tech to make it safe and stable.
There is a narrative to be made if you want it to.
Surely of all those examples, "removing it from the premesis" is actually the worst possible thing you can do, if you're looking at it thematically - "Oh, where have the engines gone that are keeping thei thing in the air?", "It's okay, Tachyon just somehow moved them elsewhere so that we don't keep accidentally hitting them", "Oh...wait...so, what's keeping us in the air, again?", "Um..." :D.
Okay I didn't think about your second point, but the first one, I wasn't saying that it made NO sense, just that it takes a little squinting. (My thought on Flash Flood was that it was reactor coolant, and on BEB that it was Omni selectively vaporizing the potential criticality and rebuilding it into control rods.) Either way, my main point stands...it makes perfect sense that you don't want to fire a Flak Cannon into the goddamn thing.
I've used the same loophole to kill Apostate with Wrathful Gaze when he would normally flip due to relics.
It's worth noting that Baron Blade is worded to flip "when Baron Blade would be destroyed", so I'm pretty sure the loophole is intentional.
If it's intentional, does it qualify as a loophole? I always thought that when a distinction is created deliberately, it's not the same as an omission due to oversight.
It's not a LOOPHOLE, per se, but it is an exploit. An intentionally possible exploit, but still an exploit.
It's because Apostate is a complete punk who can't handle being Sucker Punched in the middle of one of his nefarious schemes.
Sucker Punch works great on the Operative, too, since it keeps her from flipping. Presumably she's just been K.O.'d rather than shot with 53 arrows.
it used to be if this card is destroyed. Which meant you would have instant loss easily with cards like Terraforming in Omintron's deck, and so on.
Yeah, MDP was UNWINNABLE against Spite and -- to a lesser degree -- villains with environment destruction, like Kismet, Dawn, Omnitron, and the Ennead.
Adding the name of the card being discussed to help the forum search work: Propulsion System.
