Ra's Staff and Cryo Chamber both have a power where you can deal damage and destroy the card.
My question is: Does the damage from the attack still get the increase/decrease from the card before it's destroyed or is it destroyed right as you use the power?
This came up in a game just today and I think that, at least on the staff of Ra, I think the staff still exists for the attack, so the card still gives the +1, and is only destroyed after the attack is completed.
It depends on the order of the text.
If it says "deal the damage; destroy this card," then the buff applies. In fact, I think it HAS to be in that order, or else by a technicality it would no longer be in play, so the damage would never happen.
The card is destroyed after the attack, so the +1 damage stays.
I will confirm that that is always how I've played those two cards. They exist until after the damage is dealt.
Sorry for resurrecting an old thread, but I had this question and want to make sure I'm playing it right:
If AZ destroys cryo chamber to deal himself 5 fire damage, he actually only deals himself 4 fire damage, correct? And in the absence of any outside buffs this will always be the case?
I'm trying to figure out what exactly the purpose of Cryo Chamber is.
I do believe that is correct because you deal yourself the damage before the card is destroyed.

Cryo Chamber basically increases Absolute Zero's healing at the cost of a penalty to damage.
