Hopefully this is the right place for this question....
Does anyone use plastic card sleeves for their cards to protect them during gameplay? I'm trying to find some to protect my set (since the cards are so nice and all), i'm just curious where do you guys get your sleeves, and what prices you guys paid.
I am a little crazy about protecting my sentinels game.
I have everything sleeved in Dragonshield (clear) sleeves. These are one of the best card sleeves on the market, but they can cost a ton. I got most of mine from a friend who used to sleeve a lot of cards for different games. They normally run about $8 per pack of 100 sleeves, but they are excellent.
Maydaygames (premium) sleeves are relatively good quality, and much easier on the pocketbook at $1-2 per pack of 50. I would recommend avoiding the maydaygames standard sleeves because, while they are inexpensive, they are also cheap.
If you want to order Dragon Shield sleeves, they can be found at any major online retailer (coolstuffinc, funagaingames, and even amazon carries them). I recommend the clear dragonshields (clear front and back). The color sleeves have a clear front but a solid color back. I like the clear sleeves so I can see the backs of the decks to tell what cards belong where.
I use Mayday Premium sleeves. Mayday standard are 100 per pack, and cheap, low-quality sleeves. Premium, on the other hand, are 2.25 for 50, and very high-quality sleeves. They also fit Sentinels PERFECTLY. Specifically, 63.5mm x 88 mm, or Dark Green. (the sleeves themselves are clear. The packages are color coded.)
Dragon Shield may be the best quality, but for the sheer volume of cards (1100+ for base, unity, ambuscade, rook city, and Infernal Relics) MAyday premium are the best balance of quality and price.
Don't use penny sleeves. They do not fit in the EE box unless you store the cards vertically (which is not fun, by the way). I hear that Mayday Sleeves makes sleeves the size of the cards. The FAQ on this site should have the info for SotM card sizes.
I'm going to +1 on the Dragonshield. I haven't had any problems with them, and they feel nice in my big mutton paw hands. Yes they do cost a ton, but I know I've been adding a few packs here and there everytime an expansion like this comes out to have them ready on day one.
My only gripe with them is that they currently don't fit the Enhanced Edition box set and I'm working on a solution to help keep my cards just as organized as unsleeved cards... >_>
Unfortunately, come ST they wouldn't fit anyway (too thick with sleeves).
I just started using a card box (like this). The separators are designed for cards standing vertically, but a little but of superglue and you can place them to create two rows for horizontal cards just as easily. I will be upgrading to the 5 column box for ST/Vengeance. At that point, I will probably scale up the EE box art and glue it onto the box (or something).
Yeah, currently with my dragonshield sleeves - I've been using this. I find with the homemade boxes I've been making, I can store 11 heros in one well, and I'll have 4 more in the 2nd well. I've got Villians and Environments all lined up in the last well with room for the tokens inside my extra dragonshield boxes. I cut a notch for the oversized cards, but I may end up either going deeper or finding/making a new solution for that also. Right now I need to find a better size for my sleeved Environement cards because the boxes I made for them came out a little too small imo.
They do if you don't mind crushing the tops of the sleeves. I'm surprised to hear that Mayday sleeves fit, because they're smaller than Ultra-Pro Pro-Fit inner sleeves, which are themselves too small.
Mayday is having a sale on the green sleeves right now, about 50% off it looks like. May be a good chance to pick some up. I just did. If McBehrer already thought they were a good balance of price and quality, that balance just tilted a little more in your favor.
One thing to note (and i personally love mayday sleeves) is that while the sleeves are designed to fit cards exactly, sometimes this means the sleeves are a tad TOO small. And i dont mean the extra-tight fit of ultra-pro pro-fit sleeves (my other personal favorite), but by being just a HAIR to short. This leaves just a millimeter or two of card sticking out the top, and seems to vary from pack to pack as well as from game to game. I ended up with a shipment of them (i work at a game store) that were JUST shorter then Netrunner cards, yet fit Mage Wars cards PERFECTLY.
I noticed that today. I managed to get the lone pack at my local game shop and sleeved most of my environment decks. The EE cards were very clearly sticking out, the Rook City cards slightly so, and the Infernal Relics and Promo cards fit so perfectly that words cannot describe its beauty.
