Redirect Inquiry

Redirecting, is it the same as dealing damage from a Rules as Written point of view? This has come up in a game while using Mr Fixer.

The Driving Mantis style lets Mr Fixer redirect damage. Dual Crowbars lets him increase his damage and his an extra target when he "deals" damage. So, in this example, if Fixer is dealt 2 damage, can he redirect that as 3 damage onto two different targets?

My understnading of redirecction is that the original damage dealer is still doing the damage, Fixer is just changing it's target.  So in that case I don't believe crowbars would come into play.  Someone correct me if I'm wrong on this

Just changes target, not who is dealing it. Crow bars to not come into play or any damage boosts that fixer has.

cmschex has got it right :D When the word "redirect" is used, everything stays the same EXCEPT for the target of the attack. Say Plaugue Rat deals Mr. Fixer 1 damage: Mr. Fixer could redirect that damage back to the Rat, effectively making the play "Plague Rat deals Plague Rat one damage."

This, in contrast to, for example, AZ's Isothermic Transducer, which allows the attack to go through, THEN he hits someone for the equivalent cold damage :)

I'm still unsure as to how redirection works with regard to Nemesis bonus. If someone is trying to hit someone else and a third person jumps in the way, the person performing the attack isn't going to abruptly decide to hit harder (or softer) depending on the identity of those targets, are they? So if someone is attacking their Nemesis but something else redirects it (eg Spite tries to hit Wraith but Legacy uses Lead from the Front), does the Nemesis bonus go away for the attack as it now hits a non-Nemesis. And if someone tries to hit someone but it's redirected to a Nemesis (eg Blade tries to hit someone and Legacy intercepts via Lead from the Front), does the damage go up even though its redirection and shouldn't be affected by the nature of the new target?

According to the rules, if you redirect, you remove all bonuses and penalties and then add them all in again as if the new target had always been the target of the attack. That applies to nemesis bonuses. So yes, Lead from the Front vs Blade can be extremly painful. Particularly if he's Bomber Blade.

Ahh okay…that's cool. So you do alter the Nemesis bonus as appropriate if the target changes. Okay :). Not having ever seen Bomber Blade's card I don't know how much harder he is than normal Blade…but I'm guessing he has some effect that involves blowing people up (ie dealing lots of fire or energy damage) ;).

He does do quite a lot of fire damage on one side, yes. Last tiem I played him as Young Legacy, both sides hit points spiralled down at an impressive rate thanks to nemesis bonuses.

This rule is both a good an bad thing. True, it means that redirected damage isn't buffed, but it does keep all it's other effects. For example, using Nightmist's Amulet of the Elder God to redirect the ethereal bonds to a villain means that they can't deal damage for a round. Similarly, redirected irreducable damage is still irreducable. Fun times. ^_^
