Redirected damage

We recently played a four-hero game against Akash-Bhuta, using Visionary as one of the heroes.  Visionary played Wrest the Mind (the original, un-errataed version) on Akash-Bhuta, who subsequently came up with Entomb.

Entomb does H damage to each hero, resulting in a total damage of 16.  Visionary redirected the damage to Akash-Bhuta, who then took the 16, plus two more for Wrest the Mind.  Visionary then took her two damage for Wrest the Mind.

Did we play this correctly, or should each incident of damage have been considered separately?  In that case, would we have four incidents where Akash-Bhuta takes four and then both she and Visionary take two?  This would result in total damage of 16 + 8 = 24 to Akash-Bhuta and 8 to Visionary, rather than 18 and 2.

Each hit is a separate instance of damage - each time Akash'Bhuta tries to hit a hero, Visionary can choose whether or not to redirect that damage. If she chooses to redirect the lot, you'd do the effects of Wrest the Mind for every hit - one per hero. So Visionary would have to hit herself for each redirected hit.

Any time multiple targets are being hit by the same attack, each hit is considered a separate instance of damage. Similarly, if a single attack deals two hits (for example, Fanatic's base power, Exorcism), they're considered two separate instances of damage (even if they both have to hit the same target) and so are both treated separate in terms of buffs/soak.

Well the long and short of it is no since Wrest the Mind can't be played on character cards.

But generally, you would treat each instance of damage separatly. Visionary would indeed take 2 (should be 3) damage for each redirect. With 4 heros, thats 4 instances that you redirected, so Visionary would end up taking 8 (should be 12) in that case.

Welcome to the site, Scott! Glad to have you. :slightly_smiling_face:

Sounds like your using the original edition of the game. Here are the changes that were implemented for the Enhanced Edition. These changes fixed some issues, including what folks above are referring to.

He did say he was using the pre-Enhanced version of Wrest the Mind, which is why I didn't comment on it (ie the fact it was played on a character card and did two damage instead of three) - otherwise I would have ;).
