Revocorp: Redefining Humanity

Its been a while since I've posted one of my ridiculous theory chains, so here is my compilation of theories about Revocorp.

My take on Revocorp is that they are shady, but never in a way that can be proven.  This would be why they can be near problems, yet come out looking clean(ish). Some of these are connected, some are less so.

1. Revocorp is composed of Aldred Industries personnel that survived Omnitron's initial activation.

Revocorp is very interested in acquiring objects of power and tech (oblivion shards, omnitron components). I'm thinking that the head of Revocorp could be Aldred himself- the kind of person who creates an AI for a weapons factory is pretty shady...but then installing an intelligence inhibitor on it?  thats pure supervillain! When Omnitron activated, I'm sure a LOT of people died...but the kind of person who creates an AI and has the foresight to inhibit it is also exactly the kind of person who would have a backup plan.

2. Revenant might be Aldred himself, but not as a human.

Coming on the heels of this, Revenant might well be Aldred after uploading himself.  Sure, the meat might have died, but the brain lived on.  This could explain why Setback was so surprised to see Revenant again- the shell that he wears (the white Revenant suit) goes down, but its easy to put himself into a new one.  This could also explain the interest in the Omnitron fragments- Aldred is attempting to understand machine awareness, to come to grips with his own situation.

3. Revocorp has a lot of fingers in a lot of pies.

Revocorp is a very likely cantidate for all of the animal-themed people with powers that crop up.  If you look at the Revocorp logo (The half-moon), you can see that it has a DNA strand as one of its central designs- this would seem to support that genetic manipulation is one of their specialties.  My guess is that Ambuscade was an early experiment for them (Revocorp seems to fit the "shady genetics corporation" reference in Ambuscade's bio to a T) in granting people powers through genetic manipulation (and since he was a big-game hunter, it keeps with the animal theme).  A further guess is that they keep him as a consultant when it comes to acquiring dangerous creatures (and which ones would be good for powers).  this could be further supported by Ambuscade's behavior in tactics- he seems to have no reason to go up against the F5, but we see that the ultimate goal of the entire Uprising operation was to get Reventant replacement Oblivion shards.  Given Ambuscade's desire to get his powers back, it makes sense that he'd be interested in helping- particularly if Revenant was the one who gave him powers originally.

4. I get the feeling that Revocorp does some good stuff to counterbalance the bad.

My feeling is that Revocorp manages to come out looking neutral (if not outright good) in the public eye by keeping some good deeds in its pocket.  think about it- Revenant flies around wearing armor with the revocorp logo on it.  thats the action of someone who is either completely unaware that cameras exist, or someone that has a plan for dealing with them.  Think about how Revenant is shown, and how his actions could be spun.  He's fighting Expatriette, who can easily be portrayed as a public menace, if not an outright villain. He's fighting Setback, who can cause disasters just by stopping ot pick up a penny.  I'm also thinking that they have a cure for the rat plague squirreled away somewhere....

Dont forget RevoCorp was behind the modifications that gave way to FrightTrain. You can see the RevoCorp logo in his V5 deck as he is being rebuilt.

Pretty much agree with the rest of what you said. Ambuscade connection? Totally with you.

So...would Setback vs. Fright Train be a good representation of Baron Blade vs. RevoCorp?

I love these posts Braithwhite.

I agree with all your points, and would add to them:

I think Revo-Corp is determined to advance humanity in whatever form they can, AI, Super Powers, Alien Tech, I think Ra finding his staff in Tactics is inside Revo-Corp, I think Fleshwalker Gloomy and Zombie Spite are both connected heavily to Revo-Corp.

I expect to see Voss return via Revo-Corp and would not be surprised if they have Lillian under their power at some point.  I believe Revo-Corp is where Pike is as well, voluntarily or otherwise.

I don't think Revo-Corp will play a direct role as a big bad in the card game though, since they are still a Legit operation in tactics.

Although I suspect the Citizen Dawn scenarios might be a tipping point that brings Revo-Corp out of hiding.  (Dark Watch + Revo-Corp for next Tactics Expansion!)

So basically the Illusive Man/Cerberus from Mass Effect

I think that the best comparison with Revocorp would be Pike industrial.

Pike's experiments in drug and chemical enhancement creates monsters- Plague rat (or at least the mutagen) looks like a Pike Chemical creation, we know that Spite was given his powers through Pike chemical drug trials, and I wouldn't be surprised if they had more nastiness in store (like whatever is in the Biomimetic plasma vat).  this generally comes about by accident- they give Spite drugs to see what would happen, and Plague Rat seemingly was reborn in the sewers from toxic (Pike chemical) runoff.  Their interest in things tends to end as soon as the monster breaks loose-  like with Spite, they scrub all records and write it off.

Revocorp, on the other hand, deliberately creates monsters.  They enhanced Ambuscade at his request- and even though they couldn't quite make everything work without complications, it was partially successful.  Freight train was again enhanced at his request, and they came through in spades with him (implying that they learn from their mistakes).  This is one reason that I think that they are the more dangerous company long term.  I think that they take careful notes and work on their processes, making sure that one failure can be turned into a success down the line.

My guess is that they are the ones responsible fpr Plague Rat's recent transformation (the one in the harness, with spandex pants).  It could be that they have harnessed the original rat, and are extracting the plague- both as a weapon, and to create a cure.  Because why get rich selling a weapon when you can engineer a disease that you already have an antidote for?  Its also possible that this is a new rat entirely- one that they created at someone's request.

Baron Blade, for all his brilliance, seems to suffer from a severe lack of imagination at times.   It seems like he gets these extended periods where arrogance keeps him from being original.  Like taking the leftover Omnitron bits, creating the Omniblade, and then claiming to have "improved" it when all he did was paint it purple (and it wasn't terribly intelligent, hardly the equal of the original).  Or improving the Friction suit- he fixed a few flaws and threw on some Shock absorbers, then patted himself on the back and called it genius.  Even the various superhero serums were done in an effort to replicate Legacy's powers.  Meanwhile, his most original works- the terralunar beam and his clever gadgets- got neglected for YEARS in favor of his desire to one-up other geniuses.

I do not have anything to add but just wanted to drop a note that I enjoy reading these posts Braithwhite

I agree with Plague rat, and I think the harness speaks of something more.

I don't think Revo-Corp asks permission or accepts polite refusals when they repurpose failed villains.  I think that Plague Rat in Sky-Scraper's deck is being manipulated or controlled and doesn't have a choice anymore.

They seem focused on the long term, and content to bide their time.  They probably have government contracts to study these things, we know that the government wants to restrict powered individuals, Revo Corp could become very important to those efforts.

I compare Revo-Corp to an Evil Stark Industries, their hands are in everything, and no one realizes they are the bad guys.

Oh, well failed villains are fair game.  They probably got paid by the city to cart Plague Rat off to a secure facility where his disease could be studied, so that a cure could be found for the unfortunate victims.  If this is the original rat, then permission wouldn't be an issue.

I would just like to point out that I was on to RevoCorp from day one. I made a topic about it and everything, but people told me I was overthinking things.

Who said you were overthinking things?

I think that Revo-Corp was either built on the remains of Pike Industries after the heroes defeated Pike, or at least brought all it's assets for pennies when it's owner was revealled to be a centuries old criminal mastermind.

Why bother reverse engineering the chemical mess used to create Plague Rat and other chemically created villains when you can get hold of all Pike Industries information on what they dumped down there in the first place.  Also a good way to get Plague Rat under their control would be to say that they have the records and can work on creating a cure for his condition.

The thread I found where McBehrer is talking about Revocorp doesn't have people mentioning anything about overthinking.

https://greaterthangames.com/forum/topic/what-is-revocorp-vengeance-spoilers-4638

It just got the normal derailment into multiple topics having nothing to do with the original post.

And this fits in nicely with a bit of storyline that would warrant a Chrono Ranger promo (who in his head tallies: the rat is still around even after I hunted him down and now RevoCorp is working on an antidote, which could lead to an outbreak of the virus and potentially be the time-fork that leads up to the Unforgiven Wasteland). I am looking forward to the next expansions to see how things will play out.

Con could give Chrono a few extra body parts maybe.

Yeah, looking back on it, I guess not. But I totally thought of it first.

Well, you certainly posted it first.
