Rook City Renegades - announcement

My guess is that Girder is the gunsmith who made Pride & Prejudice. And perhaps Grimm is the red-cloaked figure in the rulebook.

I in fact strongly suspect not. This character looks to me very reminiscent of the modern Crimson Avenger, one of DC’s characters and a low key personal favorite of mine. Granted the look also suggests Alucard from Hellsing a little, but for some reason CA is where my brain is going when I look at ā€œher?ā€. That and the obvious Gambit parallel.

(Of course I can just geekgasm to the max and say this is a new promo for Baccarat because Flat River secretly paid off Michael Bishop and the Cauldron is canon now…sigh, Disparation story IRL when?)

Pretty sure that’s the Stealth Suit Bunker mentioned in the variants section. I feel vaguely like we might have seen it somewhere before, even if just in the background of Ironclad Maintenance Bay.

Yes, Stealth Suit Bunker as presented in Update 26 from May.

We’ve now seen art for all core variants, but not powers for Detective Wraith or Backdraft Ra yet. I’m afraid we’re not getting Mullet Setback to go with him, since there’s already base, 1st appearance, Dark Watch, and I assume Fey-Touched.

Why would you assume Fey-touched? Was he not in Backdraft for longer?

Mostly to go with the Fey-Court in the set. I dunno, though. Did he have any different powers in Backdraft (besides the glorious mullet)?

Man, it looks nothing like Bunker. I like my idea better.

Isn’t the whole point of Bunker that he has suits for specific situations? So of course they look unique!

Schema has also already shown up on some DE cards, looking like AZ’s suit. I’d imagine that he would show up in a space expansion if he’s going to show up in DE.

Looks to me more like they are taking out the Aeon Men by warping space. The Aeon Men’s limbs are all stretched and a little twisted, and the graphic designers cropped out a twisted…road?..to go with the new character. Does that power set match anybody we know about?

Looks like they are much more clearly drawing connections to the future RPG universe with DE, for example with Headlong’s frictionless coffer that Christopher posted with the one-card-from-each-deck update. And in that vein, of DE clearly putting things that go together, together, I think we might get Backdraft Setback instead of Fey Setback. (I realize the Fey Court is also in this set, but that’s the only way the pair of variants go together, similar to the way we got Termi-Nation all at once with the EE releases.)

Yeah, I don’t really know what we’re supposed to be seeing with the red figure. I can’t think of a character with space-time warping powers.

As far as Backdraft Setback, maybe he will be in this set. I don’t remember many differences in his powers during the run of that book, if we even heard about them.

I just know we’re going to get a Fey-Touched variant eventually. It’s happening right there on his Cause and Effect card.

I’m not certain it exactly fits, but the pink coloring brings Visionary to mind for the powerset. It also appears to be in the Realm of Discord, so that could be adding some extra funky-ness. At the very least, the Aeon man behind the figure appears to be taking some sort of mental damage.

As much as Ambuscade’s ā€œSteal the spotlightā€ hurts the heroes the art and flavor text seems to me like Ansel is flirting with the werewolf not trying to shoot her.

Yeah, maybe it’s a story of him using/teaming with Alpha to hunt a stronger werewolf. Most dangerous game and all that.

It’s cool that this one-shot breaks the mold of the other ones we saw in the preview, being more dangerous when played on a hero turn instead of weaker.

Any idea where that robot is from? It doesn’t look like Revocorp/Blade-tech.

Implying he would not flirt with someone he was trying to shoot.

For some reason I just assumed it was Ambuscade’s.

Exactly! I got the impression that Ansel was the most flirtatious male in universe and would be the second most promiscuous character after Paige Huntley if he was not so self-conscious about his horribly disfigured face!

… Maybe that’s the one situation where he doesn’t want the lights on him?
