Scenarios

Okay. Legacy, Visionary, Haka, Bunker went to find the Coronal CoDEX this time, and unlocked it correctly. I thought this group might have a little trouble, but I had forgotten that Bunker could do fire damage. He didn’t, however, have regular access to any of his projectile attacks, which made that estimation moot.

There was a little bit of trouble after Visionary’s Brain Burn - a couple of follow-up attacks reduced her to as low as two hit points. I knew the scenario would be sunk without her, since without her psychic attacks or Twist the Ether I wouldn’t be able to unlock the last layer of the Codex. Fortunately, thanks to a few decoys and some life from Legacy, as well as some Villain control with Take Down and Precognition, she survived, and Dawn never flipped. She Twisted the Ether around Haka, allowing him to deal a fascinating array of damage types to the citizens and dinosaurs, eventually Savaging Dawn for somewhere in the area of 30 damage, unlocking the Coronal Codex with his last attack.

This was a really good scenario. I like this mechanic the best so far. Visionary is an excellent choice for the required hero for it, due to Twist the Ether. I assume Haka is there because it mentions he liked the dinosaurs later?

Correct.

Wedding of the Century!

The first game was a no go. The characters hardly mattered, but they were Legacy, Zero, Ra, Bunker. The initial setup had some high-damage minions, but Bunker wiped them with External Combustion. Then Megalopolis played Hostage Situation. Can’t play cards. Okay. Voss comes up with a Guard, as well as Forced Deployment. Ouch. Well, that’s cool, we’ll cope. The team didn’t have much going on, so they just drew a bunch of cards. Megalopolis plays… Hostage Situation. That was pretty much it. I played it for another round. Everybody was in single digits, with no way to remove the horde that had grown up (especially since everything was -3 damage), and the next environment was Paparazzi on the Scene. I guess they showed up to watch the heroes get their rears handed to them.

The second game had Wraith, Legacy, Fanatic, Bunker. (Legacy just seems to come up for all of these, doesn’t he?) Things went much smoother. Everybody got out some pretty sweet setups. Wraith used Smoke Bombs to deflect a lot of the damage to Bunker or Legacy, who had their armor cards. All of the minions died quickly. Bunker ended up with about 15 cards in his hand and was able to deal 17 damage on the last round to fulfill the bonus goal.

Honestly, my typical playstyle against Voss is to keep him on his flipped side, tank his damage, and weather all the cards he plays. This sometimes blows up in my face, but even if it does, the heroes probably have the means to take them down (as long as the environment doesn’t get in the way). What this means is, I kill all of his minions right away. So, I didn’t really notice the objective here. None of the minions stayed out for more than a turn.

(Fanatic had Zealous Offense active. I probably could have afforded to let him flip back a couple of times. Maybe I should take the time to figure out the rhythm there. Makes it a lot less likely for Forced Deployment or one of the Flagships to show up.)
