Sentinel Comics RPG Recorded Archive!

The purpose of this thread(until someone undoubtibly makes a better one) is to compile all the recordings the forum community can find of game sessions of the Sentinel Comics RPG. This is both for learning purposes(real time examples of rolls, rules in action, etc.) and pure listening pleasure. These links can be both just small personal sessions or full fledged episodes of well known podcasts. Feel free to contribute links to your own game sessions! I'll start us off with this link here, incase someone hasn't listened to it yet.

During one of my many late-nite youtube sessions, I found an old pre-beta test run for SC RPG played by Burn Everything Gaming. Lot's of things have apparently changed system-wise since then, but I figure it's still worthy of linking here.

The Play Better Podcast released part one of their group playing the demo.

There's so much mockery of the characters in this recording that I had to turn it off. Haha I'm not even sure why it annoyed me so much, because they were generally funny, but all of the comments about ripping off other superheroes irked me enough to stop listening. "Oh, there was an accident in the lab? Shocking!" I guess I'm more attached to these Freedom Scamps than I thought I was and when people eyeroll at their lovable backstories I want to defend them lol.

@much0gust0

I would listen to the Boards Alive podcast, it's not only really entertaining, but it also gets across a lot of the stuff I was trying but apparently failing to get across in MindWanderer's thread.

I'm listening to the Play Better podcasts now.  It's kind of tough to get through with the considerable number of rules they get wrong.  They have a good time, though....

I did! It's great! But also, I would feel that Christopher has a bit more leeway than literally anyone else to nudge characters to a certain goal lol.

That reminds me of something my favorite author, Jim Butcher, said about the Dresden Files RPG

to paraphrase

"I'm the only person in the world who can't play the Dresden Files RPG. If I GM it, its too much like my day job. But I would be the worst player ever. Whenever I got into an argument with the GM I would be like "No, it -is- that way. And I will write it into the next book to prove it if I need to!"

I'll let you in on a secret: Every GM has that same leeway, just by dint of being the GM.

Christopher just gets to sound better than everyone else RPing as Argent while doing it.

I'll let you in on a secret: Every GM has that same leeway, just by dint of being the GM.

Yes! That is one of the secrets of being a GM, kind of like one of the secrets to being The Hulk is that you are always angry :D

That quote STILL confuses me to this day…

@Phantom5613

Bruce Banner discovered that he involuntarily became the Hulk when he got angry, so the secret was to slowly ramp up to anger, and then stay *constantly* angry so that he never experienced a sudden transition to rage (and therefore the Hulk). It also meant that he could transition to the Hulk voluntarily at any time.

Obviously that wasn't a permanant/long term solution, but that is what he meant.

So what I'm getting out of this is that if you achieve a sufficiently intense level of awesome as a GM, you can transform into Christopher. Seems fair.

Oh boy, sounds like I need to work on upping my level of GM awesomeness.

Aaand I'm becoming a GM now just so I can do this.

Ah, alright. That's what that weird quote meant. In the long-run it does sound better than giving a lengthy explination, but still just kind of confusing.

Thanks Paul.

Well, I'm definitely not up to Christopher levels, but I did audio record this past Friday night's session of the 2nd half of Freedom Five #801 with two friends.  Once I get that uploaded to Dropbox (in a day or two most likely), I'll post a link in this thread.

The session ran a little long (1h45min) including some rules coverage, and I make no claims as to the audio quality (it seems to be a touch quiet, so I had to turn up the volume during my test listen) or that it will be interesting.  But we'll at least have it for learning purposes should anyone want to refer to it.

That'd be fantastic. Thanks for sharing. :)

Managed to get the file uploaded faster than I expected.  Link is down below, but a few comments first:

  • SPOILERS! You shouldn't listen to this if you aren't going to be a GM (unless you've already completed the starter kit).
  • The audio file has not in any way been edited. So it's a little quiet and there are a couple moments of silence that would have otherwise been edited out.
  • My two players didn't do a ton of actual RPing, but I'm hoping this is something we'll get more of as we continue.  I probably talked too much.
  • We started with a bit of a story re-cap covering Scene #1, since we played that back in November.
  • Around the 5min mark there's a brief pause (because someone knocked on my door), before we go into a rules check and explanation of the new rules coming into effect (Collections, Leiutenants, and the Scene Tracker).  After the rules we set up the scene at Legacy Park and the Akash Tree.
  • Around the 17min mark we actually begin playing!
  • 35min in, I lie to Unity and say that she can create a bot that does healing... she doesn't choose to so it doesn't impact anything, but I do get corrected on this sometime around the 101min mark.
  • 79min in Wraith takes a minor twist to make an attack, but I totally forget to apply the twist because the attack ends up going really well.
  • 100min in there's a long moment of silence while Unity decides what to do.

Next, two notes I want to make about the scene tracker:

  • While you can't tell this from the audio, I drew one out by holding a piece of paper over the scene tracker in the book, and placed the tracker in the middle of the table so it was visible to all.  As we progressed through the scene I covered over the "stars" with stickies to show time passing.
  • Since I was playing with only 2 heroes, I wanted to give my players a little extra time so that things weren't too rushed.  I added 4 full rounds to the scene tracker: 1 Green, 2 Yellow, and 1 Red.  However, part way through the battle I started having the Roaming Spider Bots attack the tree, in order to speed things up, and take some pressure off of the heroes' quickly-declining health while adding pressure to the scene overall.  This resulted in the tracker advancing more than one spot per round.

Hey folks, our podcast just put out the first half of a playthrough of the first adventure. Since the GM was the only one who knew anything about the setting and characters some of the players get a little weird with the pregens. Overall, we had a good time and I think we did an ok job with the rules given it was our first time running or playing the game (in fact we may be switching over from Wild Talents for our main game).
