Sentinels Timeline Clarification

With the impending doom that is Oblivaeon nearing our doorstep, with Prime War in the works, and the RPG a little (?) ways a way, I wanted to create a thread, and also a pretty flowchart for the wiki, about the timelines in the Sentinels universe.

This thread does exist, but I'm hoping to keep it less detailed. https://greaterthangames.com/forum/topic/chronology-2819.

I just wanted to keep this simple, I personally don't need to know if "CHARACTER" got coffee first, then ate her bagel in the Annual #2, or did she get a bagel only, because the coffee machine was possessed at the time?". I'd also like to keep it to major events, such as character deaths (and if they led to a new future), character appearance, teams formed. But I'd like to stick this to timelines, universes, and the ilk.

NOTES

- This will contain NO spoilers for playtesting notes, cards, or playtesting forum discussions. Unless it is public information, it can't be here.

- The goal of this is to have one nice place to clarify it up, discuss theories, and to help newcomers who were only introduced into the game recently.

- If we can get this on the WIKi then AWESOME. I will be willing to create the picture/flowchart/document, and pass it on to the wiki's gatekeepers.

The following points were added after Foote's comments

- Applicable to playable Environments/Heroes/Villains (variants included if applicable)

- Non-dystopian futures as well

- Must have enough background information to warrant attention. So, a timeline briefly mentioned in the flavour text may not count.

- The point is to help ease new and current players into getting a basic understanding.

OVERVIEW

Based on Post #3 from this discussion https://greaterthangames.com/forum/topic/gen-con-and-the-rpg-9225 I understood the following

- When/If (?) OblivAeon is defeated the timelines stabilize into 2 distinct universes. One turns into the Tactics timeline (after 5 years) and the other becomes the RPG, after only a short while. Apparently time travel and hopping between the lines is no longer possible.

- The Sentinels Card game has two other alternate futures. The first is "The Final Wasteland" and the second is "Iron Legacy's Rule".

- After Oblivaeon, two timelines appeared

1) Tactics

2) RPG

FINAL THOUGHTS

Is this correct? Am I missing anything?

To be clear, the SotM card games has way more futures than Final Wasteland and Iron Legacy paths. First consider that, in an abstract sense, the multiverse contains infinity timelines where every possibility that can happen will happen, though I expect that this is not within the scope of what you would like to discuss.

For more tangable "dystopian" futures, if we are casting a wide net on the term, consider the timeline Benchmark's Supply and Demand varient is from. A future where he is the only hero left alive would be on par with Wasteland or IL timelines in terms of "oh crap-ness". And if we are counting Iron Legacy as a dystopian future, might we also consider the timeline that the alternate Luminary is from where Legacy is the bad guy and the female version of Baron is the hero? Something to consider. What about Vanessa Long's original timeline where she is from? Would that count since it was so bad there she had to resort to timetravel?

As a side note, do you want to log all of the possible alternate timelines that we could possibly know about? Or just the ones that turn out really really bad?

I agree to everything you said, though i will edit my response about dystopian futures, that was more of a tongue in cheek fact. I'm not expecting to get EVERY INFINITE timeline, but I should have specified, one's based on playable characters/villains/environments. This should include all variants (where applicable). Understanding the timelines in this is like explaining the X-Men timelines to someone wanting to get into it. I think simple is better then everything.

So, I'll update my original post to do the following:

  1. Applicable to playable Environments/Heroes/Villains (variants included if applicable)

  2. Non-dystopian futures as well

  3. Must have enough background information to warrant attention. So, a timeline briefly mentioned in the flavour text may not count.

Do you think this can be usefull, helpful, possible?

Also, I'd like to add that this timeline project will nto be about "when this group was formed, or when this person decided to do X". It's simply about the universes where heroes/villains/environemnts are created. There is already a wiki page about the order of major events

Christopher clarified that Visionary's future timeline is not the same as the Iron Legacy line (and presumably also not the Final Wasteland line). My understanding was that there are many possible branching futures, and every time you travel back in time you end up going down a different path.

There are ultimately a LOT of different worlds that showed up in the OblivAeon puzzles and Kickstarter. For instance, the alternate Benchmark (Supply & Demand) comes from a completely different world than any we know, where he is the only hero. His foil incap art is worth studying.

Also, my impression is that post-OblivAeon there are many more different futures, it's just that travel between them is no longer possible (since OblivAeon is no longer around to weaken the barriers).

Everything you said dpt is perfect. I misread visionary's timeline as Iron Legacy and will fix that on my flowchart.

Based on the ARG, there are thousands of these timelines, but I'm doing my best to focus on the playable character ones, not veryone one possible.

It was my contention for years that Visionary came from the IL timeline, but DPT is right, that was confirmed untrue

Can someone help me clarify Miss Information's timeline scenario?

- Which universe did she die?

- The version that "replaced herself from a dimension which had overlapped "our" dimension due to ripples in the space/time continuum." is from which universe?

- Does this mean there are three timelines with her? One where she's dead, one where she was replaced, and one where the replacement originally resided?

From all we can tell, the timeline where Miss Info dies is it's own seperate timeline and not attached to any other known/popular ones. I don't believe we have any evidence to suggest otherwise (at least not that I can recall).

The timeline where she died overlapped with the "main" timeline that SotM focuses on. So in my estimation there are only two, not three, timelines in play here (the dieing and replacing happen together). She remembers dieing in our main timeline right? It's possible that she was never physically replaced but just caught glimpses and memories of herself from that other timeline. That much is unclear to me, but I still don't believe there are three versions in play either way.

Aside from this, Miss Info shows a bunch of shenanigans in her Villains deck. It is not entirely clear if the visions she shows others are indeed of other timelines or just images conqured by her psychic powers. But there are multiple branches we can view if she is, in fact, showing other worlds. But that is a different topic I think.

Excellent! The timeline where she dies, and the one where she lives. the one where she lived through the sue of "fancy space/time/magic/temporal stuff" moved the the one where she died.

Thanks!
