I never regretted a penny from my investment in this game. My girlfriend calls it my drug. My friends say I'm a cultist converting people to SotM. In the end, it quickly became my number one game. If you have a quarter of the fun I've had with it you won't regret it. By the way welcome to the forums this is a very friendly forum community.
Yeah, we dropped Magic soon after first SotM came out for our bi-weekly gaming group. It's been a lot of fun! Luckily, my spouse enjoys the game, also, so we're able to play together.
You can probably get the final 3 mini-expansions from another site or a local store?
If I can't get them locally, I'll order from either Amazon or >G directly.
I actually started with the computer game, although I found out about the card game first. I've enjoyed the app a lot so it seemed like a good idea to drop some money on the card game.
I was introduced to Sentinels after Warmachine night at my FLGS. My first game, I had no clue what was going on, but I had fun with it. My second game, I played Absolute Zero, and was hooked. As of now, I've got everything except the pre-Wrath promos, all of Tactics, and just about everything I can preorder ordered.
I have no regrets about the game except that I didn't discover it sooner. SotM is most likely the best tabletop game I've ever played, and I look forward to years of card-based heroism to come.
I'm sure you won't regret it :D. And don't forget there are online games as well - I think the Google group is still going, meeting up on some evenings to play games over the chat there or something :). I have had a poke around a few times but never managed to actually join in a game because usually it's not at a time when I'm actually around (or it's at about 1am so a bit late for me).
The Sentinels are cool - they each have their own base power and have the unique ability of being able to bring themselves back from being incapped (if your healer guy isn't incapped himself, that is)…but once all four of them go down then their setup card flips and they have four available incap abilities there, rather than the usual three that everyone else has. Also, they count as four hero targets, but only one hero, mainly for the purposes of stuff like Infection (otherwise Plague Rat wouldn't be able to flip). Their deck is mostly one-shots and they can dish out a lot of damage. Despite having low hp individually (14, 13, 11) and thus susceptible to anything hitting the lowest-hp hero target, they can be really effective. As well as dealing plenty of damage they have a healer, as mentioned, and a tanky guy who can provide soak. They also have the means to provide healing and extra draw to their fellow players. Oh yeah, and it's quite possible to chain about eight cards or so in a row if the right ones come out :D.
I totally joined the google+ group this past week, and I think silverleaf mentioned it on the Handelabra stream. Or in chat after the stream. One or both, anyway.
We bought in slowly at first, but then my wife and I got hooked. This weekend we played games against Matriarch (finally won!), Progeny (won our first try!), The Chairman (nasty loss), Apostate (vengeance is ours!), and Infinitor (rough fight, but we won). Each battle was gripping, fun, tense, and different from the battle before it. Even Chairman and Matriarch, whose decks center largely around getting tons of targets out to overwhelm the players, played extremely differently. And the Chairman, despite being really difficult, was a super-fun challenge, and that game trult felt like Expat, Fixer, Wraith, and Guise going up against a shadowy criminal empire.
My wife says this is the most fun game we've bought in a LONG time, and it's one of the few for which she doesn't begrudge my insane obsession with owning everything. We'll be ordering prints of all the promo cards this week, just to give us MORE options. She loves it so much that her esteem carries over to Sentinel Tactics, which we haven't played nearly as much but which benefits because it tells the continuing story of these characters we like so much... and I think she'll let me buy Broken City simply because it includes the Tactics version of her favorite character, Setback!
Hell, just Kaargra Warfang alone is enough challenge, fun, and variability to have been an entire game on her own... but there's tons more where that came from.
No two hero decks play alike, that's a guarentee you can take to the bank.
Hell, some of the Promo heroes drastically change the deck (surge of strength goes from being dropped to protect other Ongoings to being an actual useful card with Young Legacy for example)
Yeah, I've noticed the diversity among the heroes in the app. It took some getting used to with Unity because her mechanics were so different (needing to eat equipment to bring her bots out).
I only just unlocked Young Legacy in the app, because I am lazy. Hoping to get Wraith and Bunker tonight.
