Something appears on the horizon: Sentinel Conflict

Yeah I hope they can get the comic out still.  I think Adam does really good artwork and getting storyline directly from Christopher is always awesome

I wish I could say today is a light day at work. Well, I kinda don't. I guess.

Something I wish folks in the 'verse would remember/know is that Christopher, Adam, and Paul created the company to make the games they want to play. They have always said as much. Their Kickstarter bio even says: “The most important thing to us is making the games we want to play available to everyone.”

They like Story War - so much so they gave them booth space at the past few Cons and have been selling their product. So it makes sense (to me, anyway) they would want to share it with everyone in the GTG style.

But, as has been mentioned, without a PR effort to get that information out there - to get the real story out there - people are going to assume they're just trying to make a buck.

Here's another thought, with respect to something that at least one other company has said on a kickstarter:

GtG may be taking the approach of "we're printing this game anyway. What the Kickstarter will tell us is the size of the print run."

I can assure you that this is not the case. If it doesn't fund, neither gets made.

And that's great. I'm glad they're connecting to fans on a personal level, a level in which they can truly be passionate about what they create, because they love telling that story and creating the game. Well, except Story War was already a game. But I digress.

There is just little mutual interest in the game. And while it's important to respect those who do love something, you also have to reach a reasonable level of demand. And I think there are valid reasons for and against Sentinels Conflict (not saying either side is right or wrong).

Are there no plans to kickstart the comics by themselves?

@Craig - I think having you on board as a full time employee of GtG to manage their "presence", so to speak, could be really helpful with perception and future Kickstarters/pre-orders.  I just look at the way information and communication is handled on Stonemaier Games Kickstarters (as one example) and just wish we could see something like that from GTG.  It certainly would have helped a lot of the bad feelings during the Tactics KS.  Having a community manager who is the point person for updates/transparency/etc would be a great help with all of that.  As always, just my personal opinion

Yeah - I know it's not the case, but it does look very much like a cheap cash grab like the recent Hobbit/Batman/etc themed Love Letters.

I think he made the same point during the 2014 round up podcasts kisting GtG as his disappointment of the year (giving GSF a kicking at the same time). On a plus side though, Another contributor Suzanne(?) had the sentinels app as her second favourite board game app of the year

As for his art criticism, I think it's a taste thing. Sentinels for me is closer to a 60s DC hero cartoon with bright colourful heroes and villains, than to the modern comics made by the likes of Ed Brubaker and Sean Philips. It's designed for fun, rather than trying to make you think so although I can see his point of view, I don't agree with it

I for one am very glad that Adam's art isn't trying to emulate that realistic gritty chicken-scratch style with a million black lines everywhere. I hate how that looks and it completely puts me off comics in general.

The numbers aren't looking so good right now. I know it's normal to get a big push towards the end of a campaign, but how many will withdraw their pledges when they think they aren't getting stuff from stretch goals?

Like this card?

Yeah, but that’s Adam making fun of that kind of art.

Yup, that's exactly it.

I think I just don't like cartoons to try for ultra-realism. If I wanted realistic, I'd look at photographs. That's just me though... I much prefer traditional animation to the hideous unsettling CGI nonsense you get everywhere nowadays.

Also, get off my lawn.

Man Silverleaf I am right there with you, hate hash marks, unreal physical appearance, "Gritty reboots," too much CGI crap, Cell Phones and people on my lawn.

The tone of the art and the story have to match - the Criminal series is brilliant, and part of that is how strong the art tone matches the noir world it presents. They then did the incredible touch in the 6th storyline "Last of the Innocent", where a person looking back on his childhood was reflected in panels that were done in the style of an Archie type comic

Honestly I hope they plan on releasing Cosmic Contest. I would love to read that.

If only for a digital release, I agree.

Canceled.
