That was probably the best gamea against The Matriarch that I have ever played. After seeing seven fowl, a domain, and Huginn, Legacy's opening hand contained two Heroic Interceptions, and playing one allowed Tempest to use Grevious Hail Storm without worry (except for poor legacy, who took 7...) Mr. Fixer got his pipe wrench out right away, and with an extra power from Argent Adept's Inspiring Supertonic, was able to finish off the mask. From that point on, it was just dealing massive damage to The Matriarch herself as quickly as possible, and on round five, the game ended with all of my heroes still alive. Below 10 HP across the board, but alive.
Stupid difficulty 4 villains, you aren’t doing your job!
The Dreamer is picking up the slack though.
My game against Voss had few surprises. A lot of Lancers in the opening meant Tempest was hurting early on, but Lead From the Front helped defer that, and eventually even the ships didn't do much but delay us. We didn't see any Forced Deployments or things may have ended differently.
I hate you a little bit right now. Without adequate soak or damage prevention, and with no reliable way to clear out swathes of birds, my team was utterly annihilated. They had been doing really well against everyone else by using Parse to stack the villain deck, but with Bird-Brain, it doesn't really matter much what's on top of her deck: it's all coming out anyway. Which leaves me with six heroes filling four hero slots. Ouch.
Spreadsheet suggestion: it should be possible to make a formula to put into the "hero killer" column showing how many incapacitated heroes a particular round has been responsible for. Up for that Pydro? I can probably work one out on a copy of the sheet if needed.
Sure, if your offering to help, I won’t pass it up.
I'll take some of that hate. My game against the Matriarch was lucky. How lucky? I started the game with two hypersonic assaults and an offensive transmutation, and never had to use them. Only three fowls and Huginn got out on the first turn (plus a cacophony,) Legacy played Take Down at the top and Tachyon used her Synaptic Interruptions for destruction fodder for Huginn. Tempest starts with Genebound Shackles and Rounds two and three featured a double galvinized Tempest (thanks to Proverbs and Axioms,) ripping her apart while a healing Scholar did the same.
The turn after I took out the mask the top card was Carrion Fields (awesome,) and even though we got a little distracted with a volcanoe and hurt ourselves a bit with Proverbs and Axioms we all came out above ten.
I'm sure I'm heading for a brick wall soon.
I totally understand. That's why Parse is in my final five. I hope her control ability will help out. And she usually does that to me too. I rarely get by a game feeling this good about it against her. Especially when she gets seven fowl out immediately. My opening hands were just perfect for this one. I hope the rest of your games still go alright with your four heroes. Its been quite a run for everyone who's made it this far yet, and those still working towards it have some real challenges.
On the plus side, I still have my replay; that Matriarch fight just couldn't be won with the heroes I had. And Legacy - Wraith - Fanatic - Unity is a reasonably strong combo. I'm optimistic about the next few fights.
Also, Ario, I was looking through the submissions (I keep a hard copy scoresheet for fun), and you might have missed logging your battle with Voss.
Done! Shared you my copy so you can grab the formulas from it.
Sneak peek: The Dreamer knocks out an average of almost 2 heroes per attempt, so far…
Awesome! Thanks!
EDIT: Copying and pasting didn't seem to work. I added you to the sheet to see what you can do.
Got it. I think the trick is to copy the formula itself, not the cells.
Thanks, I will try that next time.
Wow. I'm still getting over the rush.
I went up against Iron Legacy fully expecting to be horribly massacred. And it looked bad. He started with +3 damage and punished heroes for playing cards. Ouch. Well, at least it would be over quick.
Then, the first round, I drew the one card that could make victory possible. Wrathful Retribution. This could work. Third round, with Wraith having sacrificed herself to deplete IL's stack of ongoings and Unity clinging to life with one lonely hit point, Good Legacy punches Fanatic in the face, dropping her just low enough to blitz Iron Legacy for 25 damage, dropping him on the spot.
Down to three hero slots, my team presses on. For now.
Metlarcturus, thanks for pointing out my omission. Voss's defeat has now been noted.
But fellas, fellas, I did the impossible, I took out Advanced Gloomweaver, and all without an incapcitation!
In seriousness, it was a slow beginning and there was some worry for a while that Legacy would fall even if the team won. Thankfully card draws started to help and there are few hordes that a Galvinized Tempest cannot deal with, so it turned out ok. Even though the Cursed Acolyte was around every corner and in every vast following (of which there was one, but that was enough.)
Like Metlarcturus I had a grim begining against Iron Legacy that turned to success (though not without loss.) He started with a +3 damage, though after that he tried to destroy equpment that didn't exist, so joke's on him for only hitting for 5 damage each that turn.
No Hypersonic Assaults, but an Offensive Transmutation held him off for a turn, and by the third turn Legacy got the Next Evolution-Lead From the Front combo, sadly this was not in time to save Tachyon who did all she could to protect her friends.
This didn't protect the team from their own psychic trouble from attacking Legacy or his redirection (those Impales seemed like such a good idea at the time...)
In the end I decided Tempest and Zero had enough damage capability to push through the redirection (and I was worried for what may come next,) and ended with Zero pushing every bit of damage he could muster to push Iron Legacy to -1, with all heroes ending below six HP, and Tempest holding on at one. A thrilling game.
I've enjoyed this depth project. I find myself wanting to protect the team even over a safe(r) route to victory, so I'm pursuing riskier plays in the hope of ending the game sooner. For example, before this project I'd almost never take the damage and power use from Proverbs and Axioms and always go for the healing, but in the majority of these games I'm opting for double Galvanizing or multiple localized hurricanes. It's very satisfying.
Game #1: Legacy (Support), Visionary (Control), Scholar (Tank), Tempest (Damage), Tachyon (Jack) VS Ennead IN Ruins of Atlantis
Ennead's opening is Geb, Set, Shu, Nuit, Isis, and their first turn deals 30 damage. Ouch. First round fairly average, except for a Twist on Tempest's Hailstorm, which is pretty fantastic in this setup.
First environment play is Font of Power; 20 more damage for the Ennead, sadly, but it does get Legacy his Ring, and since he already has Motivational Charge in play (he drew three), this is pretty ideal.
In round two, the Visionary gets out Demoralise, while the Scholar fields a pair of Mortal Form to Energies and then blasts the Ennead with a "Get Out of the Way!". Tempest also plays Shackles, but they are short-lived; Mass Overheating is played on round three, a monstrous Ennead turn breaking the heroes' stuff and dealing 41 more damage. That said, from this point it's a whitewash, with the least three members falling that round to Tachyon's Hypersonic Assault (she had two, so we could have locked them down for two more rounds, but it turned out we didn't need to.) All alive and fairly healthy.
Game #2: Same team VS Kismet IN Time Cataclysm
This was a much less interesting game. Never really felt in danger (except for the turn where Karmic Disjunction revealed 5 Jinxes), and finished with a good supply of HP left.
Game #3: Same team VS The Dreamer IN Silver Gulch 1883
Ulp. This is, famously, where most runs go downhill. Still, my starting draw looks pretty decent, so we'll hope for the best...
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH.
Seems like some people made it to the end (stupid villains not doing your job). Doing some work right now, afterwards, I will randomize the next batch of games. Stay tooned! :)
EDIT: Added games until round 25. Nothing too bad, except for maybe 22. And, yes, the form is updated too! Hooray for remembering!
Legacy - Fanatic - Unity
The trio keeps on rolling after the Iron Legacy incident.
Omnitron? *squish*
Apostate? *squish*
Akash paired with a target-less environment? *extra squish*
Not looking forward to the waiting game of advanced Spite again, though.
Stupid randomizer.
Added 26-30. This includes Matty, Chairman, and the dreaded Dreamer (but this time on Mars).
