SOTM Success in both Montreal and my life

I am basing this story onNOTE: I am basing this story on the fact that the majority of Sentinel players, and forum users, are located in the USA. I apologize in advance if it is not. I mean no disrespect.

This is not a story about my pride, though it begins that way. This is a story about >G and Sentinels of the Multiverse.

I can say that I am a little proud that I may be the catalyst for SOTM's success in Montreal, and by proxy Quebec. I know that a friend of mine has probably converted more people than me, but I was his pusher, so there's that. But, as I mentioned, this is not meant to be my story.

I constantly was hesitant to bring this game to game nights at my friend's place, because I was afraid no one will like it, based on the fact I might do the game justice. After the second time, at this guy's game night, it became a huge success, so much so that I got someone to immediately buy it, the expansions, and roam the forums. Eventually the host of said game night also bought his own version. While my friend was converting people in a different city, I was continuing spreading the word to other places in Montreal. Now they are beginning pass on this wonderful game.

Now when the game nights happen, I am hesitant to bring SOTM, not because I will have no one to play with, but because there's no reason to have two copies! This actually might change, because it came to a point we had so many people interested, but not enough heroes and villains to go around!

It has been nearly two years since PAX East 2012, where I met the charming, optimistic, fun loving (and let's not forget handsome :P) team from >G who got me hooked on a colorful, inventive take on superheroes, where teamwork is key.

I will be the first to admit, I have a very slow learning curve, and this game was very easy to learn, and not impossible to master.  This helped me love the game even more. The world, the style, and the care put into the game is evident, and I want to say thank you from the bottom of my heart, for giving me a great game to play, and introduce to the people of Canada.

As of now I am waiting for Vengeance. I'm sure my opinion will definitely change when I get it, but for the better of course.

Kindest Regards, much love and keep this up

Thanks for sharing, David!

One of the amazing things about Sentinels is that it tends to sell itself. It's really rare, but I have introduced folks to it who absolutely did not enjoy it, but they were extreme competitors who did not like co-ops and they did not like comics, so…

The only people who I intorduced it to who really disliked it were a couple who didn't understand the concept of damage and (life points, probably never palyed a video game in thier life). The second was a guy who insisted we play a 2 hero team, even though i told him that it wil be very very hard. He then complained that the game was way too hard, and said the game isn't very balanced, and that it would be better if it was.

Besides for them no one really hated it at all.

The learning curve is one of the best things about the game.

I tend to show people an equipment card, an ongoing a one-shot explain that you have HP and how the limited keyword works, then put the rule book back in front of them and start the game.

Everybody loves it.

The only ones I run into that don't like it are the really hardcore strategy gamers who don't like the fun.

I’ve done something similar for Topeka, Kansas. I’ve gotten 5 friends to buy the core (4 bought all the expansions), 4 created accounts here (3 are playtesters), and have personally sold another four or five EE at the comic shop I work at. That’s not even counting EE sales I didn’t make!

Congratulations! Montreal is lucky to have you!

If you bring a second copy, two games can be running at once!  Or you can play a game featuring two different Legacies or Bunkers, or just do the Clone Wars.  (A pair of AZs bouncing Hoarfires off each other could be a sight to see....)

Topeka is a lot less impressive than Montreal. :stuck_out_tongue:

Yeah, but in Montreal they speak French.

What's up with that?  Don't they know they live in North America, shouldn't American be their language?

People can't even figure out what continent they live on.

We have no elevation variation, a non-existent night scene, and the Westborough Baptist Church. Just give me this! XD

I'll give you that. I wonder if you know the guy who goes by @deadorcs on Twitter. If you don't, you should.

Dunno about @deadorc, but I work with one of the Major Spoilers guys. So, there’s that!

Well here's the funny thing. A lot of us speak both french, and english

Which Includes me.

So. I introduced and explained the game, in French to Francophones. Even though they spoke English.

They then taught the game to their other Francophone friends, and so on.

This game is all about inclusion, and love, and teamwork. And especially beating up Ambuscade for being from France. :stuck_out_tongue:

You still did a crazy lot there! Dang, man!

Grats! Spread the love like butter on toast!

Did you get Sentinels points for that, because that should be a challenge.
