Special Challenge battles to fight off the WCos delay blues.

Here's the idea, let's relive some great battles of the Multiverse where things were really stacked against our heroes.  Each of these I took a deck that with a rules tweak makes the advanced villain really tough to deal with.

Lets start with the base set Villains:

Base Game

Baron Blade

Story:  Having failed to crash the Moon into the Earth, Baron Blade tweaks his device and decides to destroy the Earth by pulling the realm of the dead into the realm of the living.  To do so he sets up camp in the tomb of Anubis, after making certain he will be safe.  Heroes must enter the tomb, and fight their way through to stop Baron Blade.

Fight:  Baron Blade Advanced in Tomb of Anubis.

Special Rules:  When Baron Blade would be dealt damage by an Environment card, redirect that damage to the Hero Target with the highest HP.

Citizen Dawn

Story:  Citizen Dawn is trying to gain control of the reality shaping power that is found in the Realm of Discord.  The heroes must stop her and drive her out of the realm before she succeeds and becomes infinitely powerful.

Fight:  Citizen Dawn Advanced in Realm of Discord

Special Rules:  Distortion cards are indestructible to non-environment card effects.

Grand Warlord Voss

Story:  Grand Warlord Voss travels back in time to conquer Earth when it poses little threat to his armies.  He finds allies in the criminals of the day, willing to betray their country for promises of power in the new order.  The heroes arrive to find themselves in a shoot out against both Cowboys and Aliens.

Fight:  Grand Warlord Voss Advanced in Silver Gulch

Special Rules:  All minions gain the keyword Gunmen, reduce damage dealt to Minions by 1 for each cover card in play.

Omnitron

Story:  FILTER experiments with improving The Block by putting aggressive AI in charge of keeping contain on the worst captives.  When they allow too much of the Omnitron programming into the system it takes over the prison, and FILTER looks to outside help to regain control of the prison.

Fight:  Omnitron Advanced in The Block

Special Rules:  All Guards gain the keyword Device, all Deveices gain the keyword Guard.

Rook City

The Chairman

Story:  After his initial defeat and Exposure as the head of The Organization the Chairman fled, not just Rook City or the Country, he fled the planet.  Now from Wagner Mars base he continues his experiments with the Lazarus Project and exherts control over his network of crime.  Extracting him from the Mars Base will not be easy, as he has taken precautions.

Fight:  The Chairman Advanced in Wagner Mars Base

Special Rules:  Environment cards are indestructible, except to their own effects.  When an Environment card is destroyed shuffle an Underboss in the trash into the Villain deck.

The Matriarch

Story:  As the events of the Shattered Timelines close Meredith Stinson finds some disturbing news, her cousin Lillian has vanished, sucked into one of the Time Portals.  She is found, trapped in the heart of the Timeline Chaos.  As a rescue is attempted they find Lillian driven mad as her Mask absorbs the energies of the Cataclysm.

Fight:  The Matriarch Advanced in Time Cataclysm

Special Rules:  At the start of the Villain Turn, The Matriarch regains X hp, where X = the number of Environment cards in play.

Plague Rat

Story:  Plague Rat is found hiding out in the Pike Industrial Complex.  The Chemicals there making him stronger, and leading him to new friends.

Fight:  Plague Rat Advanced in Pike Industrial Complex

Special Rules:  Put Sewer Fiend in play at the start of the game, Sewer Fiend is indestructible.  Rats gain all static effects that Plague Rat gains.  Plague Rat gains the keyword Rat.  Rats will gain:  Immunity to toxic, Redirection of env. damage to infected hero, damage boosts from advanced and Locus  Plague Rat will gain damage boost and reduction from Experimental mutagen.

(I know this environment is obvious for P. Rat, which I tried to avoid, but I really like the gameplay, and Final Wasteland has other decks it works better with)

Spite ruins any Environment deck fun, so instead of an awesome challenge he gets to stand in the corner until he is sorry.

Infernal Relics

Akash'bhuta

Story:  Akash'bhuta has an enemy, a festering sore on her side, a black mark on her beautiful canvas.  Its name is mankind, and despite her efforts to cleanse the planet it has proven the most frustrating of parasites.  She hates their frail bodies, their damned machines and their domination and alteration of her beautiful work.  Her attempts at fighting them have all failed, they are many and resourceful, and each time she slays them more arise to take their place.  And so the god learned patience, and learned to work in the secret places, slowly creating a web through which humans would be eliminated and dominion of the planet would be rightly returned to her.

It worked too, the humans died off slowly, but surely as her creations rose from hiding and fought back, and as she laid waste to their cities.  The war took ages, and most humans never realised what was happenning. But eventually the planet was cured of the terrible plague of mankind, or so she thought.  The one had survived, she was content to let the undying one remain in his library, a testament to her victory, but then there came another, and worse the world around her started changing, her plans being unravelled from the start.  Her anger grew, and so did her determination to find and destroy the source, the small metal box that held the most dastardly remains of Human machinery, and the ability to destroy the world she had created for herself.

It would not stand, it must not stand.  Even when he brought back old adversaries, ones she had not thought of for eons, even they who had thwarted her could not prevail, not now, this is not the old world dominated by man.  This is her world, and it is defended.

(Akash'bhuta is attacking Con's Bunker to destroy Chrono Ranger's work to undo the events that brought about the Final Wasteland, which in this version is the persistent work of Akash herself)

Fight:  Akash'bhuta Advanced in Final Wasteland.

Special Rules:  Con's Bunker starts in play and is indestructible.  Final Wasteland does not remove Akash's limbs from play.

Apostate

Story:  Apostate hears of Atlantis' discovery, and being an ancient being himself knows very well what lies beneath the depths, the unmeasurable power that was locked away so long ago, but now the little humans and their technology have found it.  Apostate has entered Atlantis, and must be stopped before he is able to fully twist the power that lies there to his will.

Fight:  Apostate Advanced in Ruins of Atlantis

Special Rules:  All Environment targets gain the keyword Relic, and only target Hero targets.  When an Environment card would play a villain card, that card play cannot be prevented by any card effect.

The Ennead

Story:  The defeat of the Chairman left a powe vacuum in Rook City, a network of Corrupt citizens and thugs waiting for someone to step in and provide Leadership.  As the unity fractured and gangs set against each other again, a new player stepped in, a group of Criminals with the numbers and power to put down any opposition.  Soon Rook City had a new ruler, and they will not be easy to defeat.

Fight:  The Ennead Advanced in Rook City

Special Rules:  The first time each turn when the environment would deal damage to the Ennead prevent all damage to the Ennead by environment targets for that turn, or discard the top card of the Villain deck.  (basically you either let a card hit the trash and have any responses trigger, or you prevent the damage)

Gloomweaver

Story:  There is strange power in Insula Primalis, power to bring and preserve life that should not be.  Gloomweaver seeks to use that power to manifest in this world.

Fight:  Gloomweaver advanced in Insula Primalis

Special Rules:  Whenever a villain card is destroyed by an Env. card play the top card of the Villain deck.

Shattered Timelines

La Capitan

Story:  The lovely and dangerous Captain of the Paradoja Magnifica has become a celebrity and the media loves her and she has turned into a modern day Robin Hood in the eyes of many, posing for pictures with impoverished children and sharing tidbits after stealing millions.  The heroes are wise to her game, but the media and a good percentage of the population are engrossed in the story.  When she shows up in Megalopolis the heroes find themselves not only fighting La Capitan and her Crew, but public opinion.

Fight:  La Capitan Advanced in Megalopolis

Special Rules:  Whenever an Environment card causes players to discard, put those cards under La Capitan.  Whenever an Environment card is destroyed, put that card under La Capitan.

The Dreamer

Story:  Vanessa Long has been abducted by villains using one of Baron Blade's abandoned MDPs.  The MDP has been found, but whoever orchestrated the abduction has vanished, in their place are her projections and the crew of the Platform, who seem to be under a spell. . .

Fight:  The Dreamer Advanced in Mobile Defense Platform.

Special Rules:  Environment cards that give bonuses to Environment targets also give them to Villian targets (Bridge and Shield Generator) Vilain Cards that give bonuses to Villain Targets also grant them to Environment targets (Dark Hero, second side advanced text)

Iron Legacy

Story:  Iron Legacy laid seige to the Freedom Tower in his bid to conquer this reality.  He is not easily stopped, esp. with his knowledge of the building.

Fight:  Iron Legacy Advanced in Freedom Tower.

Special Rules:  At the end of the Environment turn, play the top card of the environment deck.  Whenever an Entry Point enters the trash Iron Legacy deals the Hero Target with the Highest HP 2 Energy damage.

Ha! Wow - those are awesome. Great ideas, phantaskippy! Thanks for sharing! I'll bring this up at tomorrow's gathering and see what folks think.

I like the look of a lot of these, and would love to see the rest.

These are great.  I think we may give them a shot over the holidays.

Update:

Now includes All Villains through Infernal Relics except Spite, because he's on the naughty list.

What if the special rule for Spite included "When Spite would destroy an environment card, process the rest of his action as if the environment card(s) were destroyed.  Do not destroy the environment card(s)."  along with whatever added interaction you wanted?

Ouch!  +X Spiteful damage.  Don't play in Time Cataclysm, Wagner Mars Base, Tom of Anubis or Silver Gulch!

He reviews a lot of undead games.

I try not to change any of the villain mechanics, but modify the environment's interaction, or add something that will go well with the Villain's mechanics.

I don't want to just make the environment ignore his destruction, I've got a few ideas, and he'll get a challenge path soon, once he gets out of the corner.

I love these so much, I asked phantaskippy for permission to take his stuff, add some formatting, and post them in a .pdf to my site.  Which I've now done.

Bumping this back up because they are awesome.

Wait where is Kismet?
