I was teaching the game to a new player. He said he wanted to be a hero like Spiderman. I wasn't sure which one would be the best fit, so he said, "How about Green Lantern?". I wasn't sure about that one either.
For a lot of heroes, it's easy to pick a close counterpart, but I couldn't come up with a good one for either of those 2.
I always felt Plague Rat reminded me a lot of Lizard Man, and the fact Chrono Ranger got his arm "bit" might make him the homage to Spiderman. In addition to any western themed he has.
Green Lantern would be something I also love to see. Closest resemblence to energy attacks I can think of is Nightmist as she also has the Elder Ring. Or maybe Agent Ardent, with the melody that destroys ongoing/environment has the closest GL resemblence image
Though neither heroes have SoTM counterparts.
PS. Speaking of which surprised of all the heroes seen so far non of them have animal powers.
EDIT: Or say Legacy cause he got a freaking lantern on his chest and a legacy ring :P
Mechanically I think Spider-man would fit more under the Wraith than anyone else, soley for the fact that both are acrobatic type characters, that use gear for some of their powers. I could see many number of the Wraith's cards being reskined to fit the theme, other than the one about her fortune as Spider-man is not that type of character.
As for Green latern... I kind of want to say NightMist or Visionary. NightMist has a lot of spells which have various effects that the ring would probably be capable of pulling off if he was in there. Even her Mistform could be considered much like when Green Lantern goes defensive with a shield. For Visionary she actually has his shield in the form of her cocoon. She probably fits the role of a Green Lantern better as I think he would be more about control rather than the damage dealing type.
Of course these are a bit of a stretch of comparings, but they work fairly well mechanically. Theme wise is most definitely impossible at this point, but maybe soon there will be one?
Green Lantern's main thing is being able to create objects with his imagination, right( I don't know much about superheros)? That's sorta like Unity...
And as for Spiderman, his primary strength is his superior reflexes and agility, enhanced by his power to shoot string and cling to walls. His backstory is that he became a vigilante after the death of a loved one, and now tries to balance his daily job and secret midnight crimefighting. So, I'd say he's most like The Wraith. She's kind of a combination of Batman and Spiderman, in the same way America's Finest Legacy is like a combination of Captain America and Superman. Also, The Wraith seems to like leaving tied-up criminals for the police to find later, like Spiderman did in that silly 60's cartoon show.
Well you've got Setback now for Spider-Man, minus the spider part. And soon you'll have Captain Cosmic, who very well might have a lot of Green Lantern about him.
Tachyon is like the Flash, if the Flash was awesome.
Legacy is like Captain America and Superman, but with a better story than either.
I can go on and on. I actually grew tired of Comic Books once I got into classic literature and found that the original versions of those stories were way better than the ones played out in comics.
Also I was raised by a single Mom and was always around feminists, so the mysogenistic tendencies in comics really turned me off.
I think Christopher has really captured a love of comics, with a better sense of epic storylines and less of the blech that finds its way into most comics.
I understand that that is probably easier to do when you aren't actually trying to sell thousands of comics, but just the world in which the stories happen, but it works for me.
I have to admit to getting bored of these "Sentinels Character X is Comic Book Hero Y" comparisons. Sure, many do seem to be inspired by existing comic characters and fulfil many if the same tropes, but they are completely seperate entities and deserve to be considered within their own context.
It can end up being a bit like, "The bald eagle's just like an osprey. They both fly and have some white feathers and stuff." "No, I think the Northern Loon's more like an osprey than a bald eagle is. Bald eagles don't even eat fish!" "Bald eagles totally eat fish!"
We can enjoy Sentinels without dragging other stuff into it, right?
