How are you supposed to play Spite's deck? My group and I had our fourth game the other night and we chose to play against him. We found his gameplay to be a bit confusing. Is there any point to rescuing the victims other than just to keep him from getting to them first? There was one card that stated he reduced the first damage he takes every turn. Does that mean each hero's turn or the entire round? We decided our best bet was to just try and survive until he flipped then try to pour on the damage. That really didn't work out to well. We barely won but it feels cheap not knowing if we were doing it right.

Hello, and welcome to the boards! Let me recommend Flamethrower49's excellent strategy guides, located in the fixed section of this forum. The guides have been very helpful for me, especially with the more complcated characters. Absolute Zero went from marginal to devestating under the guide's direction.
I am 2 for 3 against Spite, and a fairly new player. That said, I think you played it about right. He tanks up - the heroes tank up. Big fight against a static foe once he goes all Tetsuo from Akira. I try to save the victims, but I think that tactically it generally doesn't make sense to do so.
A "turn" is one character's or the environement's turn - So H+2 turns per round.
Yes, see the text of the Safe house : when Spite flips, he deals himself X toxic damage, where X = the number of cards under the safe house times 5. So if you can manage to keep victims in the safe house, he will be weaker once flipped.
You were right about trying to have him flip fast - the time spent on his unlipped side is only interesting if you manage to keep enough victims safe and/or build a good tableau of ongoings/equipment while not losing too much life. Deck management can be very useful, both to protect victims and to have him flip at the right time or keep the worst drugs for the end.
And yes, his h-2 points protection is against the first attack each turn, so it reactivates at the beginning of each hero's turn (and the environment's and villain's too).
You have to be careful, also, about when he flips - the damage he takes from the victims in the Safehouse is dealt by himself. Since he's taking that damage, it means he's flipping, and since he's flipping, it means he's got all five drugs out. Which means whatever damage total you come to, it's then increased by one (from the drug that boosts his damage) but also reduced by H-2 (from the drug that gives him that much soak the first time he takes damage that turn). Twice now we've been silly and had Tachyon hit him with a Hypersonic Assault (targets dealt damage by it can't deal damage till the start of Tachyon's next turn), which means that on flipping he deals himself no damage from the Safehouse :P.
Generally a good tactic against Spite is to have Wraith, armed with two Stun Bolts and a Utility Belt, double-Stun Bolt him every turn to nerf all his damage by two. If you've got someone like Legacy around to redirect and/or soak damage as well, you can pretty much nerf just about everything he does once flipped. He can be a wuss, but then again sometimes he can totally kick your arse, especially if he gets the damaging drugs out early. Once he flips, though, since he no longer draws cards you know exactly what he's going to do every turn so can set up to deal with it.
Thanks for all the replies. That cleared it up. Like I said before, it was our fourth match so we're still figuring it all out and trying different decks every game. I had Expatriette(sp?) who was doing decent dmg but I just couldn't keep myself alive. Visionary almost died before she cocooned herself and changed all Spite's dmg to cold I think. Then A. Zero was healed by everything Spite threw at him. Him and Mr. Fixer just chipped away 1 or 2 dmg at a time until we finally won.
Sounds like a pretty epic game! The more you can imagine it being an actual Comic book sometimest he more fun a game becomes XD
Spite is no simple customer! But he is easier than some other villains. Still, loosing is half the fun in my book
if you have the foresight to do so, record your games and enter them into our tracker for statistics (link is on the top of this forum, in a sticky)
youll need, at least, Heroes, the order they played in, the villain, and the Environment, and how you won/lost. Other things are Did the villain flip, how long time, how long rounds.
I lost to spite the first time we fought him. He actually slaugtered us. Then I played another game against him and used visionary legacy a.zero and wraith. Right before my whole team died I was able to set up visionary with twist the either and her cocoon and a.zero slowly beat spite. A.zero ended with full health haha
