Strongest and most versatile 3 hero team?

There was a thread a few weeks ago on putting together a 4-hero team that would face random villains in a row.  Time to drop it to three heroes.  Do you take three of the four from before, or is there reason to go with a new hero to provide more firepower or flexibility?

I'm experimenting a bit with a three hero teams as practice for this upcoming weekend's SotM Challenge.  Currently putting Team Leader Tachyon, Tempest, and Nightmist through their paces.

We totally destroyed someone when we played with TLT, the Adept, and Unity (in that order), because card draw plus Inventive Preparation meant that many many bots came out within a couple of rounds and all of the bad things died :D.

Legacy, TLT, and Tempest would probably be a good one too, I reckon. Lots of damage, lots of damage buffs, little equipment, not too many "vital" ongoings, loads of card draw, ongoing and environment destruction...

In a three player group I'd be tempted to go The Sentinels, TLT, and Tempest.   With a lower H value I feel like The Sentinels have a better survival and they are your major damage

I would tend to agree with this. With three heroes, you really can’t afford much in the way of specialization; everyone needs to be able to inflict damage, deal with ongoing, and deal with environment cards. Team Leader Tachyon may be the weakest link here since so much of her damage will be piddling or even outright ignored by any kind of armor, but keeping everyone in cards–especially Nightmist, who needs them bad for her Amulet trick–might make up for it.

EDIT: And Tempest may be in a bad place in certain situations (against the Dreamer comes to mind), but hey, you can’t have everything.

What I've seen so far is that each of can be coming up short in various places.  But they also bring strengths and I do like that all of them have ways to take out environment or ongoing cards - which is often needed.  Not having a bonus damage option to help TLT get past DR is an issue.  And if I was doing all advanced games where DR is more common I'd consider a different option.  If armor is not an issue I like TLT for the draw power, Hypersonic Assault to slow damage, and the eventual build up of burst cards for those one-shots.  Plus Synaptic Interruption since it is one of the EPE stopper cards.

Tempest against The Dreamer would be doing healing and playing his one-shots.  Possibly risking Localized Hurricane as well.

[Redacted], [Redacted], Tempest.

*drop mike*

That was the same sort of thing that was all through the forums before Vengeance came out.

Well at this stage of playtesting it is true.  Also my chance to legitimately use [REDACTED}

My official team of 3 would be Haka, Nightmist, Naturalist

I’m superstitious about Tempest. I can never draw Cleansing Downpour or his one-shots when I need them.

That's one reason to put the card drawing machine on his team.

This team might be a bit fragile but I think with TLT, Chrono-Ranger, and KNYFE I have quick and high damage potential.  All three have an ability to destroy ongoing or environment cards and Chrono could search for his if needed.  Chrono's bounties would keep Tachyon and himself in the game even with DR.

I’m not sold on KNYFE just because I like Nightmist being able to probably take out multiple ongoing/environment cards at once and/or gain immunity to most attacks, but good catch on Chrono-Ranger! I might prefer him to Tempest.

Let's see.  KNYFE has:

  • Extra card play/power usage
  • High damage
  • Sustained self-buffs to damage
  • Multiple damage types dealt (melee and energy)
  • Both AoE and single-target one shots
  • Ability to destroy ongoings
  • Quick recovery from ongoing/equipment destruction (seriously, half of her cards say something like "When this card is destroyed, draw a card and play a card")

In certain combats, I'd certainly take her over Chrono-Ranger.  And a combo of TLT, Tempest, and KNYFE?  They can deal with pretty much anything under the sun.

She could combo with Tempest a bit with him playing Into the Stratosphere and then she plays Wrecking Uppercut.

Christopher, Adam and Paul

Without them the game wouldn't exist.

Damn, I think Greywind just won ;).

For a 3 player team I feel like you need a Tank / controller,/ Healer but with one or more acting as a dps… Id say the best 3 person team would be : Team Leader Legacy, Visionary, Tempest

Legacy has the ability to stop villans from playing cards and will give the team much needed buffs to have greater attacks. Also he has a few dps cards as well not to mention he can take some attacks off the other team members

Visionary should act as a pure controller. With her looking at all the cards in the villain deck and environmental deck you will always know what is coming next not to mention she can destroy ongoing cards and give players a chance to get back an ongoing card that was destroyed

Tempest is your Healer and main dps. Use his downpour to heal the team and then attack with chain lightning and other cards to finish off the boss. If you play your cards right you could easily defeat any boss within 4 rounds or less

I’d be willing to substitute Argent Adpet for Tempest only because he can use multiple powers and he also has the dps cards handy and can destroy environment cards.

Team Leader Tachyon, Argent Adept and Unity

TLT - Allows team to draw lots of cards, dealing damage, get rid of ongoing/environment

-I like her going first so everyone else starts game with 5 cards in hand

AA - Allow Unity to play lots of cards, heals team, gets cards back from trash, and get rid of ongoing/environment

-Favorite setup:  Alacritous Subdominant, Inventive Preparation, and Telamon's Lyra

-I also like the Silver Shadow/Vernal Sonata combo after he is setup

Unity - Deals damage, protects heros with Stealth Bot

We've had that same three-hero team (two of whom were randomly rolled). They totally kicked arse because TLT let everyone draw cards, the Adept got out Inventive Preparation (and the Bell or something) really early, and promptly and repeatedly let Unity get out all the Bots she'd been drawing on TLT's turn. I can't remember who we were fighting but they didn't last long >:).
