This may have been mentioned before but I didn't see anything and given the recent speculation involving various elements of Norse mythology I felt it was pertinent to mention the following:
Thokk is the name of a frost giant in Norse Mythology.
Interesting observation but somewhere on the forums I believe it was stated that sotm does not involve the Norse mythos. Not positive bout that but I remember reading it or something like that. I think thokk is more of a comic book " sound".
Be careful how you word that, its a bit out of context.
There is no litteral manifestation of Norse Mythology is what I believe was ment. When I first delved into the Norse mythos connection, everyone took it quite litterally and thought I was implying that the "Cosmic Entity" was Odin proper. That was never going to be the case in my mind, but it was clarified anyway. If I recall correctly, Christopher was an english major. Those sneaky devils never do things litterally. Its all allusions, misdirections, and entendre's with them. Matriarch does not weild the power of Odin's very own birds. But they weren't names exactly chosen at random either.
Sure I run the risk of diving into a pool thats a few inches deep, but such is the danger of deconstructing any work of art. But you understand that at some point to some degree, all art, from narratives to pictures to music ect, is derivitive of those before it. Transformed maybe, but derivitive none the less. Knowing that allows us to find threads that connect generations together, trace influences, and help shape the personal meaning we take away from art that inspires us.
I know, couldn’t remember how to spell it though so I described it (it being onomatopoeia). Odin is my username mostly due to interest (although in this context yeah it truly is ironic ) and I was tired of using incognito.
I couldn't help interjecting! I wrote a paper on onomatopoeiae for my Modern English Grammar class my senior year of college. Just thought I might put my English Literature degree to some use!
I also wrote a paper on Esperanto if anyone needs to know anything about that!
