Tokusatsu (Power Rangers and Kamen Rider)

Kamen Rider and Super Sentai are famous IP in Japan by Toei and Konami companies everyone knows of Power Rangers which uses the same costumes and fight scenes from Sentai, but not many are aware of Kamen Rider which predates Power Rangers by at least a year. These shows are of a genre called Tokusatsu it often involves over the top action scenes ludicrously obvious special moves and monsters who look like imaginext bad guys and are often so huge and cartoony looking you know it’s a costume. I own the starter kit and been gming Stolen Legacy I feel this system is perfect for Tokusatsu heh maybe there could be a Letter Page discussing Sentinel Comics presence as maybe manga and slightly different in Japan?

Also an rpg supplement be pretty sweet but I digress just hopes not really begging here.

Anyway I wanted to say I feel with this system I can easily create Kamen Rider. I mostly wanna utilize this Rider specifically to make a hero.

I’m hoping that my hero can have such powers as these few examples.

Henshin Barrier: Reaction: When attacked defend with Magic(d10) die and then change to a different form on auxillary.

Henshin: Action: Switch to any Style. Attack all nearby enemies with a d4.

Showtime!!!: Action: Attack target with Performance(d12) use the max die.

Henshin Hero Innate: Action Abilities are unusable till you use Henshin.

What I’m going for is a hero who can switch forms with rapid-fire succession to work with the situation on the fly.

If I was gonna make a toku hero in SCRPG, I would probably not bother with trying to come up with a transformation mechanic. Select a series of abilities (this one lets me punch better, this one lets me run faster, etc.) and then describe yourself swapping out your magic carrots or whatever that let you change between fighting styles. In other words, what you can do with your attacks is more important than why; let the henshin be the flavor rather than a limitation on what you're able to do at any given moment. :)

Just my thoughts, because I have definitely also thought about this. :V

There is a transformation oriented archetype Bunker and Muerto

It depends on the hero you’re attempting to emulate I’d say, if it’s similar to Kamen Rider wizard where for the most part his basic skills stay mostly the same but the secondary element changes then there might be a setup to emulate that without a form change mechanic.  If it’s similar to Kamen Rider OOO where his abilities drastically change depending on his form then a form change mechanic might be more appropriate.

Well there is the character archetype of forms so I’d prefer using it even if there are more thematically fitting ways to do it theme wise.

I guess it boils down to - do you want the character to play more like the Naturalist  where the character has a very different feel depending on which mode you want? Or is the character more like Mister Fixer, where there are different fighting styles and weapons which have different effects, but the character is pretty much the same guy?

Because if it's the first, then you want to go with something like Bunker or Muetro, and if it's the other, you should look at Mr Fixer.

More like Meurto and Bunker but they seem to sacrifice x thing to switch forms. Muerto more or less only has one ability in two forms and can’t use a few others and Bunker sacrifices movement. I want my hero to be more like Naturalist where each form doesn’t hinder him in anyway but some abilities will kick your butt if used in x form.

I would have an interest in a possible Tokusatsu style campaign as well, so I'll be looking for any system that could be used to implement the style.

Though it does go to say that unless C+A introduce a Tokusatsu style character, the system may not be designed for that style of hero. They come from a very different style of medium (American comics and Japanese TV), so somethings may need to be finagled arout to make it work.

I feel with the form changing archetype it can be easily translated.
