Tournament Play

Weigh in on organized play! Is it something you’d like to see done if a method was developed?

Do you have an idea as to how you could make tournament play out of this game? I would love to see that happen. Maybe have a World Championship at Gen Con next year =]

Yeah, I think a Championship at Gencon would be cool too.

We are cooking up some plans, and hope to find the optimal way to run a fun tournament. I think having a championship at Gen Con next year would be great!

What I love most about SotM is that it is not competitive - if you were going to have a tournament it would really need to be team based and measuring that would be hard.

I agree with Beevolant. Maybe having both a pre-organized team battles and character battles where you haven’t played with the people before but you can sign up to play as a specific character. Were you thinking of making a point system for scoring or making it more time-oriented?

Right now our impulse is to have contestants enter as a 4-person team with the characters they’ll be playing as. We would most likely develop a point system and have increasing difficulty as the rounds progress, with a few surprises thrown in.

A tournament would be fun not only for playing the game, but for hanging out with people cool enough to think this game is cool.

I agree! We will announce all tournaments that we run or are aware of on the website and the twitter feed. We are very likely to run a large tournament at Gen Con next year, but hopefully we can organize some smaller tournaments before then.

If you are interested in sponsoring a tournament at your local gaming store, let us know! We can help out with organization ideas, publicity, etc.

I would be interested in sponsoring a tournament whenever you reveal what tournament play would be like

I’m interested. Presumably, the FLGS would want to be able to sell the game …

Any FLGS that wants to can easily have Sentinels of the Multiverse on their shelves, now! Have them contact us (contact [AT] sentinelsofthemultiverse [DOT] com) about wholesale pricing and distribution.

I was considering maybe skipping Gen Con next year, but if this talk of a tournament at GC '12 is true, I’ll be there. My whole GC experience was made 2x better when I was approached and asked to play SotM. I can’t remember who it was who asked me, but thanks man.

It was very likely me or Christopher, and you’re welcome

We are really excited about the game, and are excited to show it to other people. It always amazes me when a booth has a game available for demo at Gen Con and then the demoers just sit there expecting people to come to them.

With regards to official tournament rules, expect an announcement of “official formats” at the end of the month, after PAX.

I agree. I’m no businessman like my father, but if you’re at a place where you’re trying to sell your product, it helps get excited about it. You guys made the game fun and exciting. Whereas–I won’t mention names–some other booths didn’t even try to seem like their game was exciting. Oh, and getting those neat little extra things was nice, like Legacy’s daughter and the prints.

I’ve enquired with the manager at the Game Preserve on the north side of Indy. We’ll see what he says.

So when will you be visiting a Kansas area convention? I would so partake in a tournament if there is one during that convention.

Well, I live in the Kansas City area, so any cons here would be pretty easy to attend. Where would you like to see us?

No idea, I am not too much of convetion goer, so I am not sure what ones are in the area. So any as long as I can know three weeks in advanced, because I have to give three weeks notice to take a day off from work to get it approved and not effect my attendance.
