This is my recipe for an ultra difficult Omnitron. Ingredients:
- 1 copy of "Omnitron, flipping machine" -The start ingredient: a little bit of brain with a serious lack of reading comprehension skills. The key point is that your brain has to read this text in Omnitron:
"Reveal cards from the villain trash until 1 Drone or Component is revealed. Put it into play."
And decide that, actually, the text means this:
"Reveal cards from the villain trash until 1 Drone or Device is revealed. Put it into play."
- Add a couple of "Electro-pulse explosive" to the top of the villain deck.
- Shake well.
- Die quickly.
As a perfect aftermath, you can then reread Omnitron's card and realice you've been doing all wrong. Facepalm.
Yeah, reading comprehension is important with SotM. We've had numerous games that were much easier because of failure to properly read, but so many that were harder - especially not that hard!
You know... I think I've always played him that way, at least as far as EPG goes. Still usually beat him, as by the time we manage to whittle an EPG down to destruction there are other options in the trash (and we get lucky) and/or we can take it out again pretty quickly.
The upcoming expansion features Omnitron X, the tenth and final and heroic evolution of Omnitron. The suggestion is that the Omnitron fought as above is hard enough to be the 9th version.
The new (upcoming in May) expansion is called Shattered Timelines - there was a Kickstarter for it a couple of months ago (the goal was met in four hours, and went on to smash every single stretch goal, including the ones that were added in later because all the other ones got met :D), which you can go and check out. One of the stretch goals was for a new, mega-expansion (which can be played as a standalone game if you want) called Vengeance - details for this are also shown on the Shattered Timelines Kickstarter page :).
There's also a massive pile of promo decks (heroes, villains, and some environments too) being released at the same time - again, details can be found on the Kickstarter page.
And there is also two heroes acting as villains : Iron legacy, and the Dreamer (aka the child that later on will be the Visionary. In her case, an involuntary villain) How cool is that?
I'm pretty sure I've had him reanimate a bomb, not realizing it wasn't legal. Frankly, he's pathetic enough even with that ability. It hasn't stopped me from utterly spanking him three times, once even on Advanced. Pretty sure I never even lost a hero.
Not trying to get anything of the sort; I just stumbled on an interesting old conversation and wanted to participate. Feel free to run with the ball if you've got anything to say.
(The thread title excites me every time I see it, because I hope someone has found a simple houserule to make Omnitron awesome. I know there's a complete alternate version, but I don't want that...I like him flipping back and forth every turn, I just want him to be better at actually accomplishing something in the process.)
