So… I stumbled upon a game that cannot be won or lost.
Sentinels of the Multiverse. Team version. Hero team includes Visionary and does not include any heroes who can move cards back onto their deck. The villain team includes Miss Information and Fright Train and does not include any villains that can move cards back onto the deck (like Ermine).
Visionary gets Decoy Projection out. Miss Information gets Unshackled Destiny out. Fright Train gets Major Flay out.
Since Major Flay’s nemesis power when Visionary is present is that Villain ongoing cards are indestructible, the Unshackled Destiny card cannot be destroyed. If you reduce any target to zero, Unshackled Destiny means that that target isn’t destroyed. Then Unshackled Destiny isn’t destroyed either.
This means you can’t kill any target, including Major Flay.
It also means Visionary can’t die. Anything that hits her gets diverted to Decoy Projection, which Unshackled Destiny then saves from destruction.
Major Flay prevents Unshackled Destiny from being destroyed. Unshackled Destiny prevents all targets from being destroyed. You can’t get rid of Visionary to undo Major Flay’s special bonus.
The only way I can see to get out of this is if one of the other heroes or villains can move a card back onto its deck instead of destroying it, but if you don’t have those characters in the game… you’re stuck.
Off the Rails in the Fright Train deck could get rid of Decoy Projection as Unshackled Destiny only prevents destruction through damage. Where Off the Rails just destroys a target with 2 or fewer health not through damage. Overall, it’s a bad setup to run into.
That’s a pretty good (by which I mean disastrous) combo. But you will eventually lose the game if it comes out.
Unshackled Destiny reads: “If damage would reduce a target to zero or fewer HP, prevent that damage, then destroy this card.” Notably, it doesn’t stop targets from being destroyed, it stops them from taking damage.
Fright Train has a card called Off The Rails: Fright Train deals the Hero target with the highest HP 3 projectile damage. Destroy 1 Hero target with 2 or fewer HP.
And ping damage to Visionary is getting redirected to the Decoy Projection. Eventually, it will drop to 1-2 HP. When it does, the next time Fright Train plays Off The Rails he’ll kill the Decoy Projection, bypassing Unshackled Destiny. He will then slowly ping Visionary down until she’s at 2 or fewer HP, at which point the next Off The Rails will kill her.
Okay, folks. Thanks for the pointer. I actually won the game.
The first thing I did was drive everybody on the villain side down to 1-2 HP. Now they were doing the same to the heroes, so it was neck and neck. The second thing I did was have my other heroes save their area effect cards (Bowman’s fire arrow for one)
Then I had Visionary look for Off the Rails with her Precognition card. That got rid of the Decoy Projection. Then I had the other heroes beat on Visionary to drive her down to 1 HP in a single round. Then it was a matter of waiting for the second Off the Rails card to appear.
When it did, Fright Train killed her and then took out another hero with his power, but then it was the next hero’s’ turn (Bowman). He took out the next villain in line. After a harmless incapacitated ability, it was the next hero’s turn (Large Skyscraper) who cleared out the rest.
It wouldn’t’ve worked if that combo of Unshackled Destiny and Major Flay had popped up after Bowman or Skyscraper had dropped. So there was some luck involved.
