Voss: Forced Deployment and Game End condition

Forced Deployment says: "When this card is destroyed, take all of the minion cards from the villain trash and put them into play. At the start of the villain turn, destroy this card."

Voss's Conquering Alien Warlord card (FRONT) states: "At the start of the villain turn, if there are 10 or more minions in play, the planet has been overrun by the thorathian army, game over."

Voss's Super-Thorathian Warrior card (BACK) states: "At the start of the villain turn, if there are 2 or more minions in play, flip Grand Warlord Voss's villain character cards"

The Rulebook, under Conflict Resolution says: "Over the course of a game, there are situations in which multiple effects would occur simultaneously or have competing effects. In all situations, card effects that happen simultaneously occur in the order in which the cards entered play."

Situation 1: Voss has never flipped. Forced Deployment was in play from the previous turn and there are 12 minions in the trash. It is now Voss' turn. In this case, we feel that the order of play is:

> Since Voss' card is the first card to be in play, it has resolution priority over Forced Deployment.

> Check for "Are there 10 minions in play". There are not.

> Destroy Forced Deployment

> Move the 12 minions from the trash to play.

The game continues since the condition that ends the game didn't hit. However, is 'check for 10 minions in play' an effect or a condition? I.e. if at ANY POINT before the start of Villain turn has finished, there are 10+ minions in play, the game is over?

Situation 2: Voss has flipped to the Thorathian Warrior side. There are 9 minions in the trash, 2 minions in play and Forced Deployment from a previous turn. It is now Voss' turn.

> The Thorathian Warrior side was up from a few turns back, so it prioritizes before Forced Deployment. There are 2 minions in play, so it flips to the Warlord side.

> The Forced Deployment was TECHNICALLY in play befor the Warlord side came in effect, so it triggers first, moving the 9 minions to play.

> Now the Warlord side is evaluated, there are 11 minions in play and the heroes lose.

The quirky question here is whether the card is a single card that came into play at the beginning of the game and subsequently ALWAYS takes priority regardless of whether it has flipped or not, or does it reset its priority when it flips as it becomes a new 'card' at that time?

I'm really curious about this one, because we FINALLY beat Voss tonight... if we played Situation 1 correctly. Situation 2 came as a hypothetical discussion that I thought was worth asking.

Voss's card was in playnbefore Forced Deployment in both cases. You check conditions first tehr first.

When a villain card flips that doesn't count as a new card entering play, it is just changing what text is on that card.  So Voss is always in play from the start of the game and will evaluate before forced deployment.

Yeah, you fully resolve the "start phase" actions on the villain character card (as that was in play before any other villain card) before moving on. So you resolve every "start of turn" thing on Voss's character card first - are there ten minions in play? Okay, he doesn't win. Next card - Forced Deployment, boom 10 minions are now in play. Start phase is over, move on to Play phase. You now have the remainder of the round to bring the minion count back down again. Otherwise, at the start of Voss's turn, you check his card and "Are there ten minions in play? Yes. Bugger." ;).

As mentioned, a villain character card is still a villain character card, whether it flips or not. Once you've resolved the Start Phase actions for that turn, it doesn't matter whether he flips or not - that phase is over and so his Start actions won't occur until the start of his next turn.
