What We Do at GTG

I'm trying to imagine the Good Cop, Bad Cop routine with shipping vendors now.  

I imagine it's probably a little like a similar routine I go through when dealing with my mom's various healthcare and social workers.

"Oh, you're giving me a hard time about doing something it's supposed to be your job to do for us. Hang on a sec. Oh hey mom, this person on the phone wants to tell you how you just don't deserve to have them do their job for you, I'm sure you'll be just thrilled..."

*five minutes of loud disabled elderly woman yelling into the phone later*

"What's that? You're very sorry and will be totally happy to do what you were supposed to do the first time I asked? Aw you're too kind."

The times when this comes up tends to involve drivers / dispatchers not wanting to have to deal with the volume of big Kickstarter ship-outs and trying to pass the buck to other divisions of FedEx. :P

Thanks for the post, this is fascinating stuff that most of us lay-people never get to see laid out.

The Good Cop, Bad Cop routine is needed for shippping.  You want drivers and shippers to enjoy dealing with you, but you also at times need them to be afraid that Bad Cop is going to make their boss angry at them, so they don't take you for granted.

Every single higher volume dock that I've worked on has needed someone to be the bad cop.

Also I was so excited to see the Business Blog get a post, hope it can get more attention in the future, you know, when suddenly there is more time.

This is code for watch out if you enter the warehouse, because forklift will be moving fast, and you will slow down everything by making Jodie account for your easily crushed mortal form.

I'm not trying to say it isn't needed.  I've dealt with enough shipping stuff to know it is a pain.   My point was moreso imagining how those conversations play out.
