Where to read the lore?

Okay, I was just listening to Christopher's interview on GFBR, and he started referencing things in the lore I didn't know, like Warlord Voss' disappearance.

How did I miss this?  Where do I really go to read the lore?

The bios and the wiki are a good start. Most of it just comes from the cards, though.

Namely Mistbound in this case

Yeah. Nightmist banishes Voss into the mists, or realm of discord, or some other realm-kinda-deal. The flavor text says something to the effect of "you havn't seen the last of me" or something like that. Mistbound is the art clue that Voss was sent away for good.

Hope he comes back though in Tactics. I'm pretty sure he will come back in Tactics somehow stronger than ever. He's too good of a character to just throw away for good.

It's comics only Uncle Ben is ever gone for good, there used to be Bucky too but if plot device and cryogenics can bring him back 50 years later than so could warlord Voss.

Now just imagine a warlord voss that had to either learn magic up to nightmist's level to get out of there or even be sponsored by an Old One considering how Nightmist's lore has a big Cthulhu flavor. Then he could supplement his genetics knowledge with magic for even worse abominations.

Have you seen the Tactics scenario with the miststorm? I really think Nightmist kinda bites the dust somehow and all her mist powers are released and create the miststorm we see. Maybe Voss was released from his misty prison along with this? Thats all baseless speculation, but whats certain is that Nightmist is connected to that miststorm somehow.

Sure would be cool if someone who knows the lore really well (not me) could actually write up the happenings of each expansion of SotM, noting where each piece of speculation came from (flavor text, incap art, etc.).  It wouldn't be official of course, but it would probably really help people who don't obsessively follow every thread on the forums (like me).  Even I had no idea Voss was gone until someone pointed it out to me.

Or perhaps the realm Nightmist's powers are from.

If I recall correctly, there's a portent of Voss's return in the art of Mists of Time, with a picture of what I can only assume is a returned(and changed) Voss sporting a grey stony look rather than his reddish complexion. I believe one of Visionary's various future sight themed cards also has an image of people fighting this version of Voss in the background too. I'll check when I've got my cards in front of me.

Also bonus, check out the rest of that Mists of Time's art to see a neat cosmic looking dude crushing the earth(who I think will undoubtably become an important character in the future)

Additionally, was it confirmed that Nightmist got her powers back after the curse was removed in V5 BB's Regression Darts?

I think that picture of Voss in Mists of Time is a statue of Voss on Dok'Thrak. Just my guess.

Yeah the dude crushing the earth is undoubtedly important! cue The Host speculation

Regression Darts do not last very long. They are temporary. You can see Nightmist back in full mistform on V5 Barons incap side

I was expecting the Wager-Master to be that guy, but giant blue Earth crusher and freaky Space-Baby are definitely different entities.

I think it's "Final Legacy!" when the Legacy line evolves into a Dr. Manhattan type character that is eternal and incapable of procreation.  Or at least I think that would be super cool.

Looking at my notes(yay google drive), the Visionary card I was thinking of was actually Omnitron-X's Reset, which if I recall correctly, has them fighting the grey version of Voss in the background, and apparently takes place in FF#30, meaning it is after Vengence, and assumedly, after Vosses original banishment(though, that takes place in Nightmist #51, so it's place in the timeline isn't immediately obvious)

...Grand Warlord Gloomweaver...

It's also seen in Precognition, which has various heroes chained up. This is most likely an alternate future or something that has a chance of happening. From looking at it Grand Warlord Voss has succeeded his conquer of Earth and is gathering the super heroes together to serve as his new Gene-Bound slaves. After NightMist sees this, she realizes Voss cannot be left around for what he is able to do, this is what leads her to Mistbind Voss.

You do not recall correctly, hand in your Sentinerds card.

The characters are in shadow, so no colour (other than Black) is visible. We have also been told that Flavour text and Art does not always match, so no guarentees that Voss is around in FF annual 30.

Also also, the flavour text says "Reloading core memory files", it could be that O-X is just 'remembering' a battle that Omnitron witnessed in the past.

Shoot, I'd been under that assumption. Whelp, time to redo my notes.

I would be particularly interested in a compilation of lore from Sentinel Tactics, as I do not plan to buy it (I invested enough in Heroclix back in the day, and gotten little enough plya out of it, that I've sworn off minis games for good).  I understand that it reveals information about characters that are minimally referenced in the card game, such as the Seer, and would like to know that sort of stuff (the post-SOTM storyline doesn't interest me much, but additional background info on SOTM characters does).

You don't need mini's to really enjoy tactics!

Tactics gave us cool bios on all the citizens of the sun. Most interesting tidbit? Truth and Dare were a part of project Cocoon (the project that produced the Visionary)

Can second that, I bought the game with no miniatures and the tokens work fine.  It's a lot cheaper that way.

I was not planning on getting the minis at all for tactics.

But, then I saw a proof copy of the pre-painted minis at Gencon...let me just say they were SO good I instantly changed my mind. Omnitron had a translucent blue back. That was a "shut up and take my money" moment haha
