I just completed a game against Omnitron where the game was over with a Hero victory at the start of the fourth Villain turn. It involved Visionary, Argent Adept, Legacy and Nightmist. Between their capabilities, it was hilarious how much they did not care about Omnitron’s feared Electro-Pulse Explosives. Each of them were capable of neutralizing it, if necessary. Employing Wrest the Mind and a particular Nightmist trick, of course we elected to send it back Omnitron’s direction. The game was sealed when he chose to play another.
Most of my games against the Matriarch are very short - my last victory happened on the third hero’s turn of the fourth round.
What are your shortest games, ending in either victory or defeat? Storytime!
How do you manage to have short, victorious games against the Matriarch!? My group and I find her to be frustrating mechanically and thematically, and just don’t have much fun against her in general.
My group lost to Apostate in about three rounds in one of his earlier iterations. Playtesters will surely know what I’m talking about with that guy!
A combination of the right cards and the right heroes. For instance, twist the ether on the Matriarch, with anyone with damage type immunity (AZ, Ra, Legacy) tanking all of Matriarch’s damage (which is now cold / fire / whatever). But the Matriarch usually demolishes other hero combinations.
I’ve had a round 3 defeat with Akash’Bhuta. (A very unfortunate series of events)
I have a documented victory over Advanced Ennead where the Tefnut got KO’ed in the round 7 villain turn.
Thus far, I’ve found that you beat the Matriarch quickly, or you don’t beat her. That particular game was the result of McBehrer’s Twist the Ether/Absolute Zero/Coolant Blast combo ™, that harmlessly channeled 60 fire damage through AZ, then released it at the Matriarch. It was kinda lucky that all the pieces came together so quickly.
I don’t usually set her up, myself.
We destroyed Citizen Dawn in 4 turns, and never finished the other.
My shortest game ever involved losing to the Matriarch at the beginning of the second round, back when Pike Industrial Complex had a card that reduced the maximum HP of all (or at least all non environment) targets by 1, causing all current birds to die, and all upcoming birds to die, with the Mask causing a second wave of birds to die, followed then by a Darken the Sky. There is almost no way to walk away from that.
I have my own combo ™ now? cool!
