Ape-ing around

So I finally got a copy of Shattered Timeliens today (Woot!) and spent the afternoon looking over the cards and reading all the flavour text.

I did a search on the forum for "Treacherous Ape " but found nothing, have we no wild speculation thread on it?

What is the deal with it and the crystal it holds and why is it on "The Dreamer Dreams" character card?

The closest I can get to any thought of coherent thought on it is as the Time-Crazed prisoner is ranting about "the child is the center" could the Ape be the Servant of "it", making sure the child starts whatever it needs to do?

Or am I wildly off base and it's all just Vanessa's stuffed toy?

Yes

:sunglasses:

Hmmmm, I've never seen you and Christopher in the same place at the same time...

I too have always wondered what made the Ape so treacherous.  I mean, besides the fact that it's at a circus and therefore is obviously up to no good.

If you'd ever seen it wait until your Grease Gun left play before shooting you for 5 damage, you wouldn't be wondering.

The fact that it's an ape in a comicbook setting is usually enough.

This thread brings a thought to mind: We are dreadfully low on ape-based villians. Villanous apes are a staple of comics just as much as the mad scientist or warlord from space(Especially in the Golden Age of comics!)

To any Devs that would care to listen! A projection with just two hp can't hope to fill the void of a real manevolent monkey monarch. Is there any chance that we could get an corupt Kong or Maniacle Mo-Mo in the future?

Well there's the Horrid Skunk Ape, too, though as a cryptid he may not actually be an ape in the truest sense.  Plus half the time you want to leave him around anyway, so while he's technically malevolent, he's often GOOD malevolent.

But that still isn't an actual villian, just an enviromental hazard more than anything.

Yeesh. Tell that to Anubis.

Or Char

Still, it's only one.  Also, both of those have over 10 hp, making them far more noticable compared to just 2 hp and removal of an item…And neither of those are monkeys now, are they?

Nothing cracks me up more than taking out the god of death with a single grappling hook to the face.

(Psst. Anubis is just the Judge. Osiris is the reall god of death, and you can't do that to him)

I was gonna say something like that - Anubis just escorts the dead when they go for the weighing of the heart - Osiris is the one who presides over it all. Anubis just kind of helps out.

My friend has a weekly monkey cover comic on his blog.

Perhaps SotM needs a monkey villain.

Is it too pedantic to point out that none of those comic covers have monkeys on them, they have apes?  (says the guy who made a WoW Code Monkey video using an ape instead of a monkey...)

Ha. I was gonna point that out too... though There IS a couple of monkeys in there, but definitely a minority.

No, not at all.  That said, every "Monkey Cover" post has a standard disclaimer, of which the following is an example:

(Standard disclaimer about evil geniuses who put their brains in the skulls of genetically-modified apes not really being monkeys applies.)

That said, I think as long the critter's somewhat simian, it counts.

So, any picture with a human on the front counts as well, then? ;)
