i just defeated The Ennead. The game ended when Ra threw his staff at the last one out (there were 7), killing it.
A few questions came up. I found the answer to some on the forums but a couple I wasn't sure on.
Are the Ennead cards ever considered Destroyed? This was important for (I think) Anubis's card (from the environment deck)
(I was able to find how Chrono Ranger's bounties work on the forum, which suggests the cards just 'leave play' and are not destroyed.
The other question I have regards thouse villians with the (symbol 1) or (symbol 2) text. Could that potentially hit twice a turn, if you put a card which each symbol into the trash, or does it only hit on the first one of either symbol?
And... holy crap. From now on i'll be trying to leave Set alive till the end. That incap side is crazy (but also can be pretty helpful.)
If Set's Incap put a card in play that lets a user use an 'extra power this turn' do they get to use a power? I ruled yes, but wasn't sure.
Technically they are not destroyed, they flip when they would be destroyed. When they cease to be a target, this is considered to be the target leaving play, but nothing is destroyed and the card does not leave play. That said, as a house rule I consider them to be destroyed and do trigger things like Anubis/Ammo Drop when they become incapacitated.
If a single effect like Isis triggers on Hand or Ankh, then that can only happen once per turn. For cards like Set with two separate effects, each can be triggered once separately.
Yes, Set is a pain on his front side, but he is just insanity when incapacitated. I always try to save him for last.
If a card says you may use an additional power this turn, then you may use an additional power this turn, even if it is not your turn and you wouldn't normally have a power use. Even better is Fixer's Overdrive which typically just gives you one extra power use, but can get you two when played out of turn.
Thanks for the responses. Looks like I did everything the correct way.
For those interested, it was Legacy, Ra, Fanatic, and Chrono Ranger at the Temple of Anubis. Legacy went down near the end, but everyone else was doing ok HP wise. I guess that means he did his job. Man, Ra was hitting for a LOT of damage with his, Legacy's, and the Nemesis boosts.
Yeah, Ra can kick arse with some nice multi-hit stuff against those guys. Like Scorched Earth, for example (obviously Drawn to the Flame is utterly useless against the Ennead unless you have damage buffs...which, actually, as Ra, you can get pretty easily, so I suppose it's still quite useful ;)). And of course, if you're playing in the Tomb, Anubis can help out too if he gets to hit any of them, seeing how he gets the Nemesis bonus. And they get it against each other if you have someone who can redirect their damage :D.
Tempest with his Shackles is also great fun against the Ennead, as long as you heep their health all roughly equal (so your multi-hit stuff constantly changes who has the highest hp, and therefore you get the Shackles damage bonus against all of them, all of the time :D).
Three of us were playing yesterday and for some reason Khedron wanted to play against The Ennead on advanced. "Are you sure?!" I asked, but he was sure.
So we did ... and got our butts handed to us.
So, of course, we tried again. And this time I took Tempest, whom I have seen do exceptionally well against The Ennead. And he did well, but nowhere near well enough ... and we got our butts handed to us again.
Deciding we would be happy with a quick win, we decided to play a nice game against Baron Blade. Well, Baron Blade is easy enough that we decided we might as well play against him on Advanced. And, well, to make it a bit more interesting we decided to set the Teralunar impulsion beam level at 10 cards in the trash rather than 15.
Oi! Hadn't remembered that on the advanced side he puts an extra card in the trash every turn!!! We had to resort to incredible shenanigans to get past Baron Blade's front side before hitting ten cards in the trash, leaving most of us with very few hit points. Then we see that on advanced Baron Blade has damage reduction. We got him down to about 15 before all the heroes expired.
Wife and I ran against Ennead on advanced yesterday and won. Ra was at 4HP, AbZero was at 2, AA was incapped and <REDACTED> was at 28. That was with AbZero's optimal setup out on turn two. <REDACTED's> <REDACTED> was key to all of the multi-target damage and saved us, even though he probably did a total of 10 damage all game long
See, here I have to re-evaluate my prognostications from the thread over in General:
A Hawkeye-esque character likely won't have a lot of health or a lot of healing. Redirection and DR aren't really a high probability, either. Especially when it's said that the REDACTED character didn't do a lot of damage. I'd expect Hawkeye/Green Arrow to have a lot of trick arrows, including high damage explosives.
A shape-changer, Beast-Boy character would be in character to heal every time they change shape. Plus, a tough form (a dinosaur, an elephant) might have DR. Combined, that could contribute to a high HP total while everyone else gets wiped.
"Twitchy" seems like he could have a focus on redirecting villain damage if he focuses on probability control and the like. But, that doesn't account for everyone else's low hp...that is, unless he's only able to redirect damage dealt to him.
The Giganta-style female Thorathian might have DR, but I can't see her having a whole lot of healing or redirection. I see her as being more of an HP tank.
Mainstay (if a chains-and-knives biker) seems more like a melee bruiser. The comment that "he did probably 10 damage all game long" doesn't seem to fit with that archetype--same with the female Thorathian.
Advanced Baron Blade is actually a challenge with 3 heroes. Either he gets some good plays like Hasten Doom –> stuff, or heroes end up leaving his targets in play because they can't take the chance that he'll hit 15 cards. Throw in some enviroment randomness, and things can go bad in a hurry. Baron Blade does teach players the ability to destroy ongoings is important.
One game of mine against Advanced Baron Blade, his first 2 plays were Backlash Fields. Our heroes didn't have ongoing destruction. We lost that game when we couldn't overcome all the damage from his battlesuit side.
I really like Advancd Baron Blade. Feels like a solid 2 rating, and if he gets great starting…goes to 3 quite easily. He's fun and fair.
