I'd ship the rod to Visionary, we don't need cards as much and everyone else can already do damage or something they need more.
EDIT: I can take the Rod, but Investigation+discard is almost always better for me (no net change in card count, and I get to churn through my cards faster).
I'll discard Scouring Mists {3} and Tome of Elder Magic {3} to redirect the Frosthound damage to Voss, who takes 1 cold damage.
Voss soaks 1 damage while the Frosthound is in play, so you may want to take it out first.
I don't think Voss takes damage from Gaussian because he's got -1 taken from Frosthound being in play. If you rework it to plasma cannon the Hound Voss will still take 2 damage and the hound will die, or you can let me finish the Icedog with my knives. Same result either way.
