Nah, it's not uncommon for a non-boardgamer type to have played TTR. They sell it in Waterstones.
Where's the challenge in that?
Haven't enough threads been derailed?
Ameena - you can try Ticket To Ride on steam nowadays, but I'm with you on theme, I'm kind of an escapist gamer so I like to imagine myself doing interesting stuff. Trains don't do it for me either!
TTR is essentially an abstract game about collecting coloured cards to link up points on the map with little plastic tokens to get victory points. It's not really a train game, just train-flavoured.
It's really not a game you'd like though Ameena, it can be extremely cut-throat as a big part of the game is cutting off other people by claiming the section of track they need to complete a route (assuming you've guessed where they're trying to get to).
Train-flavoured - fine in the world of boardgames, appalling in the world of coffee...
I'd get a buzz out of it.
...must...resist...pun...
There's also an excellent version of Ticket to Ride for iPhones and iPads. Fun game.
Check out tabletop on you tube for great board gsmes.
Is Wil Wheaton spamming us now? Or just those of us who live in London?
The 29th is open for sign-ups
Cool, done :).
At the moment, it looks like we're having 8-10 people coming now (!!!!).
Fortunately, we'll have enough cards for 2 games, especially if we include the Cauldron and the bizarre rubbish I've come up with. Please try to make sure you're roughly on time so we can claim two tables (or one large table) without (too much of) a fuss.
Since you and I (and Ja'Ph') are usually on time (and before pretty much everyone else), we should manage to spread ourselves onto enough space before it runs out,I hope ;). Pubs need to have bigger tables so I don't have to keep squishing my cards up every time ;).
I'm still on for Sunday! Hurrah!
What time are you folks planning to be there so I can ensure I am there right from the off?
PWatson, Ja'Ph' and I are generally there on time (I think it starts at noon when we're at the Hatter) so feel free to stop by whenever, really :). Ja'Ph' and I tend to leave at around four-ish or so to go and get food (there's a Nando's just down the road) before heading home :).
It does start at noon. See you there tomorrow.
And don't forget the clocks go forward so it'll feel like 11
Oh yeah, forgot about that. Normally the first reminder I get that the clocks are changing is when my computer gives me a pop-up to tell me so (as it changes) because I don't tend to specifically make note of which weekend the change is gonna happen, I just know which months it is :D.
It was cool meeting you guys on the weekend, roll on the next one!
