Superficially true, yes, and annoying. Flash has a lot of secondary powers that supposedly come from his speed, which Supes generally doesn’t show despite being ostensibly just as fast, such as vibrating through solid matter or making whirlwinds. But I do think it’s better for the JLA when Supes is dialed back a bit, so the others can shine. And depending on the writer, it is sometimes established that Flash just barely beats Clark in a race, which I think is how it should be. Note that there are a few other lesser known JLA members, notably Hercules for strength, which have similar issues of their one shtick being overshadowed by the guy who can do everything, even if he is only second in that one specific area.
That’s just it, he doesn’t. Ironically, Aquaman lacks liquidity. And despite being sovereign over the oceans, Aquaman might not have legitimate ownership over everything in it, much as Marvel’s Black Panther is the king of Wakanda, but can’t necessarily just seize the assets of individual Wakandans. Much as with Flash’s speed and resulting secondary powers, part of Batman having wealth as a power is that he has full and complete access not only to his own wealth, but to all the bells and whistles of the world financial system.
Yeah, but he should also wear a shirt.
If the Scarlet Speedster is running, and the Man of Steel is flying, I think the latter should be able to keep up, but the former should be ahead by a significant margin. They’re both still fast enough to break the Space-Time Barrier, though. If Supes is running, though, he’s still quite faster than a normal human, but the Flash should leave him in the dust.
QotD #189 Reply: Yeah, I’m gonna have to agree with @Rabit on this one. A galleon’s only fuel needs are the ocean breeze, and mishaps are significantly less likely to be fatal.
Question of the Day #190: (This one is perhaps a bit trite, but, oh well.) What superpower would you most like to possess? (Plug: For handy and clear definitions of powers, see Sentinel Comics: The Roleplaying Game.)
Yes, this suggests that Flash’s powers (which have to include some sort of friction negation, or else he’d have no skin left) allow him to negate friction entirely, while Superman’s invulnerable skin simply allows him to endure the damage caused by friction, and he still suffers the drag of repeatedly hitting the ground. It’s fun to analyze the powers in this way.
190: I think this has been done before, even on this very thread, but I’ll tackle it again. If it were a real life situation, I’d just want some form of invulnerability, specifically one where I wasn’t subject to pain or injury. My more fantastical answer, which would probably be very unpleasant and ineffective in real life, but if you made it work magically perfectly then it’d be great, is telepathy. I often want to know what’s going on in other people’s mind, even though IRL I can barely handle the contents of my own, and if you made telepathy work in a realistic fashion, it’d be useless at best, since the brain is generally not an orderly and comprehensible thing which you could just read like a book or a computer file. So yeah, I really want telepathy, and I really want invulnerability, and one larger power than could subsume invulnerability would be shapeshifting (since it’s a lot harder for you to be wounded if you can move and deform your internal organs, to say nothing of just being made out of some sort of infinitely plastic and probably regenerative substance). Like I said, Martian Manhunter is my BAE.
QotD #190 Reply: If I was like 8 years old, I would say energy-construct generation. But, I really like being a normal human. If “super-training power” is allowed, I’d take that.
Question of the Day #191: Is there any game component (e.g. Hero, Villain, Environment, Spirit, Adversary, Scenario, etc.) from one of GTG’s games that you absolutely refuse to play with?
Any and all aspects of Bottom of the 9th would top my “no freaking way” list. There are lots of other games in their catalog I have no interest in playing, but a baseball game is absolutely the last thing I’d consider trying out.
Boolean operators have no power to confine me! I will answer your OR question with an AND!
My favorite musician: I’m giving three answers because “music” is too general a category for me to pick one of; it’d be like choosing a favorite book, without distinguishing between fiction and nonfiction.
My favorite composer: Ramin Djawadi
My favorite band: “Eisbrecher”
My favorite singer: David Draiman of “Disturbed”
My favorite soundtrack from the app: As I’ve stated before, my single favorite environment theme is the Celestial Tribunal. I can’t be sure what my favorite villain-victory theme is, since I don’t get to listen to them ambiently for a long time while doing other things, nor can I queue them up on command. But off the cuff, I think the best one for me is probably Chokepoint. And of course Oblivaeon is a category unto himself, so he is by definition my favorite member of that category.
So there, you ask me for one answer and you get six of them. That’s just the kind of guy I am.
I don’t have a source for this, but I am certain that “or” can be inclusive.
True.
QotD #192 Reply: I’m really not a “music person.” The relatively few songs that I know are pretty spread out, so I don’t think that I really have a favourite musician. As for SotM: The Video Game songs, I don’t think I’ve listened to them enough to have developed an opinion.
Question of the Day #193: Coffee, tea, or something else?
Water. I almost always have a water bottle with me, and I tend to drink a lot over the course of the day, which helps ensure I’m getting up and moving more than I might otherwise.
Honestly, with the exception of a cup or two of tea every week, all I drink is water. Too much in other options that I just don’t want to deal with, including caffeine.
I wouldn’t worry about caffeine addiction. I indulge very irregularly, and while I would call it a mildly mind-altering substance, I don’t think it’s very habit forming.
Not a fan of actual grapefruits, but I tend to like grapefruit-flavored candies and such. One of my two favorite “mainstream” soda pop brands is Squirt, which is grapefruit flavored.
I don’t know if they’re the absolute worst, but I definitely am not into peaches (or nectarines or apricots, since these all taste pretty much the same to me).
Assuming I had the requisite powers, I would certainly be an eager and loyal Citizen of the Sun. Failing that, I might be a Gladiator in Kaargra’s arena, assuming I could get some Ss’dari-style technology and didn’t have to rely on my real world (lack of) athletic ability. And failing that… I dunno, probably Highbrow or Head Doctor, someone intellectual like that. Baron Blade might do in a pinch, but as a non-Mordengradian I probably wouldn’t be worth much to him.
Yeah, I think that that kinda disqualifies her, unless you want to be one of her Projections, of course.
Speaking of which, I wonder if Mordengrade accepts immigrants.
QotD #195 Reply: Hmm, if I were a henchling of Miss Information, it’s likely that I wouldn’t even know I was doing her bidding, so at least my conscience would be clear. Working for Greazer would be pretty fun, I think. Hoppin’ all about the cosmos with that cool cat, and takin’ in bounties. Like Thunderbird, I also think being a part of the crew of La Paradoja Magnifica would be nice, as the worst La Capitan usually does is stealing, which isn’t half as bad as what most Villains get up to, and I’d probably get a cool relic from the past or future too. So, ultimately, I think I’d go with either Greazer or La Capitan.
Question of the Day #196: How enthusiastic were (or are)* you about learning in school?
*For that matter, I wonder what the age demographics on here are like. Are there actually any people on here who are in High School or younger?
I was largely home schooled, so learning has always been kind of a self-directed thing for me. Public school is just a prison for potential juvenile delinquents, IMO, so I certainly wasn’t very good at concentrating on my lessons while I was stuck therein.
I was definitely on the “enthusiastic” end of things. I was one of those “good at school” kids (which is a more healthy descriptor than calling us “smart kids”) and like learning things in general so I generally had a good time with it. The social end of things wasn’t always great, and I butted heads with the freshman/sophomore English teacher in high school, but other than that I had nothing but good teachers and generally speaking I liked it.
