SotM Event #16: SotM Depth Chart <Best Forum Activity 2014 Award Winner>

Citizen Dawn took down Argent Adept and Tempest.  But that was her fatal mistake.  Tempest made everyone immune to energy damage.

Legacy and Wraith stepped up to take their places against La Capitan and beat her down like a chump.  Siege Breaker was her only minion left standing, with no damage taken.  He watched helplessly as Tachyon hit La Capitan with 2 Lightspeed Barrages and Scholar knew when to turn loose.

Plague Rat was a close fight.  Only one character was infected, and that was the Wraith.  However, 2 Fumbling Fools and a Wrong Time and Place meant that all her boosted self-inflicted damage was redirected to the Plague Rat.  However, after a few rounds of this, Setback had Wrong Time and Place out a bit too long and dropped to 3 hp.  Soon after, a Plucky Break and Proverbs and Axioms brought him back up just in time for Plague Rat to be defeated.  Key cards were: Heroic Interception, Wrong Time and Place, 2x Fumbling Fool (despite causing allies to discard some VERY nice cards!)

Ambuscade started out with Custom Hand Cannon, 2x Reactive Plating, Sonic Mines, and an Automated Turret.  Thanks to an early Inspiring Presence the damage reduction was no issue.  Cloaking Device only came out once and was taken out quickly.  On the last turn, Proverbs and Axioms lead to Legacy dealing himself 5 damage to boost everyone's damage by +1, then Setback dealing 6 damage to himself to deal 9 damage to Ambuscade.  The Wraith dealt 6 to herself to deal 7 damage to Ambuscade, then dealt 7 more to Ambuscade to finish him off.

Lower the number.

Rounds 11-18 have been randomized, which means all non-Wcos villains are in the game. 17 and 18 might be easier, but it might be a problem getting there.

Can't enter the Chairman game.  It only goes to Ambuscade on submittal.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHh!

Anyone esle have a problem where no matter how many times something happens, you still mess up?

.......

Fixed.

EDIT: WOW, there have been 46 games played so far. That's awesome!

I must say, I struggled much more with the last four than the first four.  Which, I guess, is to be expected. Ra, Visionary, Mr. Fixer, The Sentinels, and Tachyon took on these four, and only one of those made it to the end.  Akash wasn't too bad, just requiring a lot of time.  Advanced Blade was the opposite.  A very fast bash, with high damage on both sides.  Luckily, I made it past those two on my first try.

Advanced Dawn pulled Hammer, Assault, Summer, and Winter, and Blood as her first turn play,  which I almost immediately knew was going to lead to my redo.  And I was correct.  The second game went much better, with HP again getting dangerously low, but all heroes still active when the dust settled.

Then came La Capitan.  That was an uphill struggle the entire time, and I pretty much lost.  Four incaps later, I managed to hit her for the necessary four damage (Overdrive with Pipe Wrench in play).  With Mr. Fixer at 2HP left, it was barely a win.  I did keep myself from losing all five this game, however, and so I'm glad for that.  Hopefully, The additions of Legacy, Argent Adept, Setback, and Tempest can help the push through the next few games.

Well, you do have Mr. Fixer against the Rat, that should make things easier.

That is true.  He was probably one of the best to carry over to Plague Rat.  And having very recently played against Plague Rat for the living campaign going on, I know what to expect to a degree.  I only started playing against villains on advanced very shortly before this event, and I hadn't played advanced Plague Rat before then.

So far, the Dreamer has taken down 17 heroes and 4 redos. Tough choice, if you go down hard the first time, do you move on or hope for a better game?

Doesn't seem like you had a problem with Dawn.

I've got a quick question.  My girlfriend enjoys playing SotM as well, and wants to get in on this after I explained what it was.  If we create an account for her, would she still be able to submit a team for it?

Absolutely. Also, while I encourage everyone to join the forums, one of the advantages of using Google Forms is that you don't need an account on the forums to play. The disadvantage is that you can't come here to tell us about it.

Thanks. And I'll try and convince her to use the forums too. :P

The Cap's Cosmic Crest is a wonderful thing against Dawn, it seems. Also, his bromance with Argent Adept grows stronger every game. I was activating six or more powers for AA per round by the time Dawn went down.

THE JIMENI SQUAD

THE STORY...

"Legacy," Visionary called, entering the command center. "It's K.N.Y.F.E. She's calling."

"No, she's not," Legacy said, looking at the blank monitor. Then it gave out a loud bleep, displaying the message: INCOMING CALL: K.N.Y.F.E.

Legacy shook his head and answered the videophone.

"Aye, Laddie, we got ourselves a fine mess. We're hearing the Ennead's up to no good at Atlantis. ... Ra around?"

"Haven't seen him. But we're gonna need some help. Can you get in touch with Tempest? I'll call the Adept, and Visionary and I will meet you at the port."

Before long, Legacy, Visionary, the Argent Adept, Tempest and K.N.Y.F.E. were in the Legacy Sub, traveling the deep ocean. Soon they came upon the long lost Ruins of Atlantis, and sure enough, there was the Ennead mucking stuff up, probably looking for some ancient power to enhance their own.

It was a brutal battle. The Ennead were tough, hammering the poor heroes, delivering blow after devastating blow, nearly knocking out Argent Adept. But his own songs, a cleansing downpour and Legacy's motivational ways helped keep him on his feet... barely.

And the team held together; Legacy being all inspiring and galvanizing; Visionary warning her friends of dangers to come and demoralizing her foes; Tempest calling in squalls and lightning to punish them; and K.N.Y.F.E just cutting them down.

Even a kraken joined in on the fight, its huge tentacles taking down a few of the Ennead itself. Soon the last member of the Ennead fell, and the team cheered and rushed to Argent Adept's aid.

As they were about to head back to the sub, though, an energy portal opened. and the five of them were sucked in. By looking at all the strange sights -- from all centuries, past and future -- they realized they were in some sort of time cataclysm.

Out of nowhere, a red-haired woman appeared and looked them all over.

"I think the time of your demise has come," she cackled.

"What makes you think that, lady?" Tempest asked, preparing to unleash lightning at this stranger.

"It's Kismet," she said with a deliciously evil smile, as she rubbed the talisman around her neck.

GAMEPLAY...

Well, our first one was a rough battle. We sincerely thought we'd lose Argent Adept. He got as low as 4 hp (maybe lower), but through self-healing, Cleansing Downpour and Motivational Charge, we managed to keep him standing. One round near the end, we were even able to plan it so that the two Kraken cards (one of which was out and one of which we knew was coming out) would be able to take down two members of the Ennead. And, ultimately, all our heroes made it through; Argent Adept survived with 5 hp.

THE JIMENI SQUAD, PART II

THE STORY

Kismet thought she knew what fate lay in store for the five heroes, but the squad proved her wrong.

Legacy kept his team inspired, and even lashed out a few hits himself (He usually never hits a lady, but she wasn’t being very ladylike, he reasoned).

Kismet lashed out with jinxes. She scattered some minds, and even made our heroes turn on each other.

One could see Argent Adept’s shaky hand as he played his instruments, his nerves probably heightened because of the last battle, but he would not be shaken. He played with heart and gusto, giving his friends the boosts they needed.

K.N.Y.F.E. burst forward with her energy sword, slashing away at this new foe. Tempest unleashed lightning after lightning, reclaiming such knowledge from the deep.

At one point Legacy found himself with Kismet’s talisman. Later K.N.Y.F.E. had it.

But soon Kismet was down. After their hard-fought, triumphant battle with the Ennead, the heroes just used that momentum to quickly bring down this new villain.

But shortly after Kismet fell, there was a gust of wind in the time cataclysm as it disappeared around them, and it dumped the five heroes and one smaller figure on a nearly barren landscape.

Argent Adept, like the others, looked around and noticed the saloons, the barrels, the tumbleweed, the swinging wooden doors. “Guys, I think we got dumped in the Old West.”

But Legacy’s eyes were fixated on the figure that came out of the cataclysm with them. She was a young child, and she looked shockingly familiar. “Visionary,” he stammered. “Is that you?”

Visionary gasped. “Oh, sh…”

GAMEPLAY

Yeah, Kisemt threw some rough things at us, but it ended up not being that tough of a battle, and all of our heroes survived. I don’t even think there was ever any worry that one would be lost.

The next fight, however, we weren’t feeling as confident about.

Citizen on Advanced. Not going to lie I was scared for my heroes for this fight. She started with Assault and Battery out plus Citizen Winter and Blood. Her play was Channel the Eclipse. 1st turn and I was now confident that I was deader then dead. (yes double dead). Argent Adept for me will do nothing but give Omnitron X a power everyturn which Omnitron would use to turn around and play the top card of Chrono Rangers deck. Omnitron went next and he would play some cards to get rid of ongoings, or put out a component, then his power play the top card of Chrono Rangers deck. Visionary next, play phase mess with the villain's trash or deck. Always putting citizens back into the deck. Power Chrono Ranger draw two cards discard one. Chrono Rangers turn play two cards (Jim's Hat). Sudden Contract X2 or something else that does damage. Hit for all of the damage. Power Compound Bow. Fanatic holding up the rear. Her job was purely Citizen control and then do some extra damage to Dawn herself. Wrathful retribution for the win though.

I won and no one died. I am still in a sort of shocked state but it was awesome.

That’s awesome!

One reason why I like these types of events is that you end up playing games you don’t normally play.

Round #1:

The Ennead nearly crushes the Prime Wardens.  Osiris with an early Phosphorescent Chamber and Atlantean Font crushed our hands to nothing.

Fanatic never had a card in play for more than one round.  Almost all of the Ennead made it in play and our health was in the single digits (other than Haka thanks to Ta Moko early) with one Ennead down and 6 in play.

Argent Adept finally got some cards going, CC got some Bracers in play and the Wardens pulled themselves back from the brink, Cleansing Downpour finally coming out turned the tide, and the heroes got to work.  Then Set went down and with Reclaim and Vernal Sonata it was an easy win from there, the last round the heroes dealt over 50 damage at the start of the villain turn to end the game.  the next card would have pulled the last one from the shrine.

The sickness that is the Prime Wardens is impressive, even when everything goes wrong.

Final HP:

Fanatic:  5

Tempest: 4

Haka: 16

Captain Cosmic: 4

Argent Adept:  3

Only Shu remained under the shrine.

Round #2 was a stompfest.

Haka got Taiaha, Fanatic got Absolution, End of round #2 Fixed point comes into play with Dynamic Syphons on Fanatic and Haka, With Haka's at 1hp and Fanatic's at full, and Adept having used Syncopated Onslaught to raise both of their damage by 1.

Kismet ran out of HP the next round.  Adept was the lowest health at 17.

Round #3:

There are a lot of games I am happy to have Fanatic. . .

First side went quick, Tempest got Hurricane, Captain had Harsh Offense, Fanatic rocked Absolution, Haka got Whipacorned.  Round two Sustain the portal took out the Ape for a cleared field.

Meanshile Fanatic dropped most of her hand for Tooth Fairy, and sustain the portal put her at 1 card, Prayer of Desperation.  That didn't get her End of Days, but the Brutal Censure afterwards did.  Dreamer Flipped, and immediately put out 6 projections, End of Days cleared that and a whipacorn got Wrathful Retribution for its trouble.  HP was low, largely because that second side damage is just wicked at (H)=5, But Fanatic doesn't play games with little girls.

Low HP was 9 for Adept.  High was Haka at 12.

Three wins, no incaps, no losses, no Mulligan.  A loss to Ennead would have cost my Mulligan, but I was fortunate.
